My first review here has to go to this supermarket. Mercadona is usually the first shop we visit on the way from the airport. I love the bakery but they offer much more. Fresh meat and fish as well as plenty of cheese, vegetable and fruit choices. The staff is always smiling and they make you feel welcome every single time. They even try to speak English once they realise you have not idea what they're talking about. You wouldn't expect that in a supermarket located outside of the tourist hotspots.
Opening hours:
Monday- Saturday: 9am - 9:30pm in wintertime (9am - 10pm in the summer) or check their website, please.

Mercadona is closed on Sundays and on Bank Holidays. I do most of my shopping there.

I like the new plastic trolleys that don't need coins and the fact that you don't have to price your fruit & veg before you go to the till. I can't get to grips with the layout though and I'm not keen on the new butchery idea.

Morning all
I think the one Tamara is talking about is the one at La Hondura north of PDR the one at El Matorral you still had to put a coin in the trolley last week, whilst they have done the butchery at El Matorral I am not sure they have change the main tills to weigh the fruit & veg yet, we get our F&V from Fran Y Chemi, half the price

Is the Fran Y Chemi, the place up at the far back right behind Mercadona ?? Keep meaning to go there to see what it’s like, heard good reports. We are only usually out for a couple of weeks at a time & mostly eat out so don’t do a lot of “normal” food shopping. Good to know for longer trips though
There is a guy advertises on one of the Facebook pages, has a farm out near us between Antigua & Valles de Ortega who sells fresh F & V from his farm. You can either pick up or they do deliveries around the island on certain days. Stuff looks good, not sure about prices though. Think his name is Moralles. I will post a link next time I see his advert. Farm to table is always good
Hi Ron- Yes that's the one up the back opposite the ITV station.
Captain S uses a delivery service - Info from email - For the last couple of months we have been getting fresh veg from the following people: Mafasca Frutas Hortalizas
They deliver to your door on Wednesdays and you pay 20€ for 11 kilos of produce - it's a bit of pot luck what you get in the box but usually includes potatoes, peppers, cabbage, aubergine, radish, onions and some herbs. A photo is attached of what we got this week.
Hope that helps
