Yes, the quality is good, but probably cheaper at Fran Y Chemi.

I'm told that Mercadona are also going to introduce the 'takeaway' food model that works well in Padilla (like at Gran Tarajal). Here you can buy whole cooked (hot) chickens and a number of cold dishes to heat up and serve at home.
We'll see.

Anyone know the delivery rules for the Caleta branch?

What time do you have to order before to qualify for same-day delivery? I'm afraid It's been so long I can't remember.

Also: is same-day delivery possible on Saturdays? I've never tried it on a Saturday before.

This is on their website:
  • Mercadona will always offer you the next available slot for delivery and then the subsequent slots, in order that you may choose the most convenient one.
  • Your order will be delivered from Monday to Saturday, excluding holidays. If the store serving your area is open on a holiday, Mercadona will offer the delivery slots in the same way as it does between Monday and Saturday.
  • As you carry out your shop you can consult the delivery slot times.
So I guess it depends if they have slots available and the only way how to check it is to go to their website and try to order something Smile

...I thought that was only for the online deliveries.

If you go and do the shop yourself, isn't it different? They have the stuff sitting there, so they can hardly wait five days to deliver it, right?

Well, went down there this morning, so here's what happened for anyone wanting to do the same in future:

Picked our trolley, went to the checkout, asked in advance if we could do home delivery for the first time. She had to check with someone, but said yes. Before 3pm, you can get same-day delivery. After that, it's tomorrow. We were checking out at 12.30, so it was fine.

After scanning, frozen goods went into one bag, chilled into another, everything else back into our trolley.

When we were done, she took our address, phone number, and NIE. Then she printed out a little slip for each bag of frozen/chilled foods, and put it in the packet at the front of the bag. She asked when we wanted it, and we said today. The 5-7 slot was not possible, so we took the 3-5 option.

Then, you simply walk away. Someone will collect the trolley and bring it to the delivery area in a minute or two, apparently— it felt a bit weird waving goodbye to the trolley full of items you've just paid for, but it worked out in the end!

At 3.45, we got a call asking what number house we were. I told him, and that we'd meet him on the street if he was here now. He was, and had a big handtruck stacked with crates and chill/frozen bags. The crates have your trolley goods bagged in them, and once he unzips the bags, they have bags you can keep too! That must have happened after we left the food with him. We thanked him and sent him on his way.

Not sure if we will have to go through all this again next time or can just give the NIE (when she tried to put it in the computer, the system said no), but overall a very smooth process.

Absolutely super service. SO much easier than trying to get a taxi of a Saturday afternoon— we were able to dodge around China Town for a few hours, then walked back to town to be home for our delivery. Couldn't recommend it highly enough!

Sounds like a decent system Ducks. Great if you don’t have a car. If you don’t mind me asking. How much did the delivery cost ?? Cheers . . Ron

Next time, ask them if you can ride home with your groceries. Save a taxi fare, as well.

€4.21*, I think— so about the same as a taxi!  Tongue

Instead of getting the lift, we bought half of China Town and picked up an IKEA order, then hauled it all back across the scrub and into town.

Definitely got my 10,000 steps for the day, I'll tell you that!

Really a great system, though. Waiting outside the shop for a taxi in the heat where there's no shelter and you have no idea when one might fetch up is truly horrible. We've asked them to call us one before, but considering they're Puerto taxis, they take much longer to get there than the Caleta ones do at Atlantico.

*May have been €4.81; I'll check tomorrow.
