Lets hope they put in a better roof than they did at the one at La Hondura which couldn't take the rain recently -

When I drove past on Weds (28th) morning there was lots of work going on outside still but it looked like finishing things, painting gates etc.

I called in on Monday for the first time since it reopened. It basically looks the same as the one in La Hondura. The layout has changed slightly compared to previously but most stuff is in roughly the same areas.
The tourists have been catered for by the signage being shown in Spanish and English (with some amusing results!).
Quite a few freezer cabinets were nearly empty.
The fruit and veg area (and several others) has very large open spaces - what a waste of retail space.
Confusing/inconsistent signage re upcoming closures:

They are Closed all day on 6th despite nothing showing on the yellow sign.

Overall - a clean, bright shop with friendly staff, a good selection of goods and plenty of shaded parking.

By appointment to Santa:

(Sam - as the refurb is finished please can you change the title of the post? cheers)

I had a chat with some staff that I know in Corralejo earlier this month re their yellow calendars. They have now redesigned them and this is the updated December version:

Title changed.

Regarding the December calendar, they had the same yellow one in the Mercadona near Caleta and the Sundays look a tad confusing. My guess is that open Sundays in December will only be the 23rd and 30th until 3pm. Am I right?

It looks like Santa works the whole December this year. Anyway, I'm more interested in the two UFO ships in the top of the pic. UFOs or Santa's sleigh parking above the supermarket? I guess we'll never know.

I think only a couple of regions in Spain celebrate Easter Monday, presumably not here.

Supermarket chain Mercadona will culminate in April the definitive replacement in all its stores of the current plastic bags by other paper, raffia and reusable and recyclable bags that are also made with 3,000 tons of plastic from the packaging recovered in their stores.
The objective is to imple-ment this measure, which began in 2018 in 66 stores located in València, Bizkaia, Barcelona, Cantabria, Illes Balears, Ceuta and Melilla, to the rest of the chain in a progressive manner.
The expansion began in February in Catalonia, Madrid and Navarra and will be expanded to reach more than 1,600 stores in the middle of next April.
With this measure, you can choose to make your daily purchase between the traditional 50-cent raffia basket, a 10-cent paper bag, and a reusable and recyclable bag with a recycled plastic content between 50% and 70%, also 10 cents.
In addition, the company has installed a new piece of equipment in the fresh sections, a dispensing system that reduces the waste of the same. The replacement mechanism is easier and more intuitive than the previous one, facilitating this task to the worker of the section. Also, it is expected that these bags will be replaced by others of compostable material before 2021.
“In this way, Mercadona reinforces its commitment to sustainability, a commitment that led it in 2011 to be the first company in its sector to introduce initiatives to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags, and one year earlier, in 2010, to become a pioneer in plastic recycling with projects such as the one tackled jointly with the SPOTer supplier SPBerner to incorporate a new line of household goods (buckets, basins, broomsticks and mops), made with the plastic recovered from the greenhouses,” a spokesman explained.
In addition, Mercadona collaborates with more than 170 soup kitchens and 60 food banks and other social entities throughout Spain, to which it donates daily food, and participates in food collection campaigns. It also works with more than 28 foundations and occupational centres in the decoration of its stores with murals, made by more than 1,000 people with intellectual disabilities.
