Movistar broadband costs and packages
#1
Just wondering what the going rate is for normal line based broadband. I have been with Movistar for approx 4 years now and have seen the prices sneak up over that time. I am currently paying just under 60 euros per month which seems quite pricey to me. I started to wonder if I was paying for a calls package and maybe a tv package to be included which I don't use as I only use the internet service. Not normally a problem as it is for a rental apartment but as I am no longer getting guests the price of the broadband seems to be a high cost which could be trimmed if possible. I tried using the Movistar website but the auto translate is giving misleading info. Does anyone pay for internet only ie no calls no tv etc and if so how much is the going rate?

€60 is a bit much.
Is it ADSL through a phone socket, or 4g?

If ADSL you will have to pay for the phone line. How long has the contract been running? It might be possible to switch to another supplier.

Yes the Movistar website is odd with translations.

Yes its adsl through a phone socket. Had the contract running for at least 4 years now. It just seems really expensive compared to other countries such as the UK and Greece which makes me suspicious that I'm paying for extras such as TV or calls packages that I don't need.

Hmmm... At 60€ you might be.

I think it should be around 40€ total.

They might have added on an "Included minutes" package to the landline...

The online portal should have a list of whats included in your package.

Click on "Mis Productos", then the icon for the phone line. See what it says in there.

e.g. Mine says

500 minutes / month fixed to mobile Saturdays and Sundays
Individual line
50 minutes / month fixed to mobile from Monday to Sunday
Unlimited calls to landlines

Thanks again I managed to get as far as Mis Productos and it did suggest calls and tv package was included but in trying to follow the requests to remove these products the translations seem to take me round in circles at that point. Think I might have to wait until my next visit to the island to resolve this!

Hi Doug

I have Movistar 4g, and the bills do creep up (never the opposite direction!).  My bill last month was €62 odd, which includes a phone (which I use) and TV (which I don't use).  Again, it seems pretty pricey compared to UK broadband packages, but I've taken the view that I'm on a small island with limited options.  On the other hand, I only watch streaming TV services, and get a lot of mileage from the unlimited broadband.

Light at the end of my tunnel is that my apartment block is being wired-up for fibre optic, so I should have a lot more options by next month (or maybe next year - this is Telefonica, after all!).  So any pointers towards a fibre optic provider with unlimited streaming would be welcome Smile

Cheers,
Chris
