Somehow my wife’s electronic certificate, originally obtained and renewed at the same time as my own (which expires Jan 2027), expired Feb 2026 un-noticed by me! We need to apply anew, and have done the online bit to verify email and obtain an application number. We now need to get her identity verified…..last time we went to the Drago office in the hospital, so just wondering if anyone knows if that is still an option these days? Otherwise it’s the Cabildo or Hacienda offices, I think. Thanks in advance, if anyone has any current info.

You can still verify identity at the hospital in the Administration offices. On entry take the corridor to the left of the reception desks. About the third door to the left is Administration. If in doubt, ask for Augustine in the small, white office to the right of the main entrance. He speaks excellent English and is extremely helpful (the last person who asked him was escorted to the correct office).

With many thanks to Tom, we’ve just been into the hospital and completed the identification process. On returning home, followed the instructions in the FNMT email and successfully downloaded the new certificate onto my wife’s iPad. There is a new feature in the email advising to download via the FNMT app, and this worked beautifully, no messing about with webpages.
For advice to anyone else doing this, start by downloading the FNMT app. Follow the instructions to apply for a certificate. You receive an email with a link to confirm your email address. This did not work initially for me, kept getting an error message. After digging for internet advice, I copied the link and pasted it directly into the search bar on Google Chrome - it didn’t work on Safari or Firefox. That produced the confirmation in the app, after which came the visit to the hospital.
Got lost initially so went to that little office. The chap there, who didn’t speak English but was keen to help, took us down a different corridor, handed us over to a lady, she took us to another office where another lady took over and brought us to an office in the Administration offices. I took a quick photo, and it has ‘Secretaria Dirección Médica A. Especializada’ on the top notice by the door. Anyway, the young lady in there sorted it out quickly, and all done, email actually received whilst standing there. Every single person we came across was actively keen to help, we even had staff enquiring if we were lost or needed help as we headed back to the exit!
Phew! Now to export certificate to my iPad and phones…. Thanks again, Tom.
