Obtaining a Digital Certificate / Digital Signature
#21
A quick update from my post on applying for my Resindecia fiscal en convenio, I went to the Agencia Tributaria (tax office) in Rosario with a prior appointment to have my identity confirmed, took 5 mins for the fella to do it. Tax office is across from Centro Salud Rosario.

Any computer genius.
We have a new computer and used our copied Digital certs to move them.
One is fine but due to carelessness we have lost the "private"key on the other.
I assume the "private" key is still somewhere on the old computer. The question is where and how do I get it back.
I have rebooted and restored to an earlier date but that did not work.
Is it just easier to request another from FNMT?
Thanks

Sorry David, bad news!!!  The key will indeed be on the old computer, but in an encrypted format, so you will never be able to open or view it.

Best option is to keep guessing until it locks itself permanently.

Then your only choice is to request a new Digital Certificate as they don't keep any record of the password you may have used.

Sorry fella, looks like a long road ahead for you :-)

Tom.

Did you not write it down somewhere?

Do you use a password manager (Google, Norton plus hundreds of others around)?

Look at the passwords you use on other things (your Banking app etc), do any of them ring any bells? (The majority of us use 1 password for everything!!).

If none of that helps, go to the FMNT website
https://clave.gob.es/clave_Home/en/Clave...entos.html

Follow the forgotten password link.

I could not find the "private key" anywhere.
We went back to the FNMT site and it allowed us to start using the old password.
It then asked us for a new password.
silence for a millisecond then a message a new electronic has been produced,BUT you have to prove ID.
On line to AT as per Willie in previous, made appointment for today, straight in and out in 2 minutes.Only wanted TIE not interested in Passport or NIE.
Emails arriving before we got out the door.
Leisurely swim at Playa Chica.
Home,opened emails,all tickety boo.
Thanks for the replies to my cries of distress

Once again, I am stumped by the renewal process. Not sure if anyone can help with this one, but I’m out of ideas!

I renewed my own certificate successfully, eventually, nas documented earlier in this thread. Armed with my new knowledge and experience I set about renewing my wife’s certificate, held on her own laptop (newer and faster than mine!). I’m falling at pretty much the first hurdle - the renewal process tells me that there is no certificate to renew. I’ve used the ‘check validity’ button and that, too, tells me there is no certificate to check.

However, if I go into the Ayuntamiento or Agencia Tributaria websites, I can do so electronically….through the Certificate installed on the laptop! I’ve checked the certificate details inside the AT site and yes, it’s current and valid until it’s expiry in March. It’s only for the renewal process, then, that the certificate installed on the laptop is not found. Ive downloaded the FNMT software, and the Autosign stuff which Ive also manually installed. I’ve reinstalled the old certificate a couple of times, still same result.

My last thought is to install the wife’s certificate onto my old laptop, see if it gets recognised on there, then renew it that way.

Anyone else had this one??

Following on from my previous anguished posting, I think I’ve done it. The problem seems to lie in Firefox. I tried to carry out the process on my wife’s laptop which she runs with Firefox as default, then tried to do it on my own old laptop. On hers it suggested there was no visible certificate, on mine it even refused to connect to sede.FNMT pages, citing a security issue. I switched mine to Chrome, and this time it went relatively smoothly. Do be careful, though, of drop-down boxes which have to be signed not appearing, but remaining ‘behind’ other open pages…..might just be me, but it caught me a few times. I now just have to export the renewed certificate to my wife’s laptop and iPad, fingers crossed!
