SEPRONA seizes five dogs and an equine that were in poor condition in a plot of Tefía.
The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura has reported in a statement that the SEPRONA Patrol of Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, investigated on December 14 a 33-year-old person, for a crime of animal abuse for the omission of due care, having five dogs and an equid, which were in deplorable health due to the absence of the omission of due care presenting body thinness extreme, external parasitic infestation and ulcerative wounds, in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario (Las Palmas).
Knowledge of the facts
The SEPRONA was aware of the facts resulting from citizen collaboration that alerted the SEPRONA Agents of the seriousness in which the animals were in a plot of the town of Tefía, before the Events occurred, the Civil Guard immediately activated the Municipal Veterinary of said City Council, to check the status of the animals.
The Civil Guard observed from outside the plot the presence of a total of five dogs and a majorero donkey, which were in deplorable physical and health conditions, such as severe thinness, serious infestation of fleas and ticks, dehydration, ulcerative wounds and severe anemia, seriously compromising the lives of the animals.
In addition, the facilities lacked the minimum conditions for animal welfare, lacking water within their reach to hydrate and food, sheltering under boards and coils occupied in most cases by stones, as well as a large collection of excrement.
Therefore, the Civil Guard identifies the owner of the dogs and the equine and seized all the animals to transfer them immediately to a veterinary center to receive urgent assistance, being confirmed the initial assessment and leaving one of the dogs admitted to the clinic for an urgent blood transfusion at serious risk to his life.
Finally, after receiving veterinary assistance, the owner was informed that the five dogs were referred in a precautionary manner to the facilities of a protective house, and the equine to the center dependent on the Insular Administration for custody and due care, remaining at the disposal of the Judicial Authority as proof of conviction.
