Surveyors report when Purchasing a House

I am not sure a new build would provide any real comfort as it is not easy to enforce any warranties provided.

If you are really concerned, you could get someone over from GC to do it. We were considering a house there some years back, so we got someone to survey it. (And subsequently decided not to buy...) Might cost a few bob extra, but if you don't feel you can commit that much cash to it otherwise, it's probably an option.

I bought my property a few years ago and had the same problems trying to find a surveyor. I searched on Google and could not find anyone locally and the closest, was a surveyor who operated in Gran Canaria but he would have charged around 350eu expenses just to come over and then similar cost for the survey! I think nobody uses surveyors here because your average Spanish property is pretty poorly constructed and will need regular repairs/maintenance too. Also, in the UK, a full survey is commonly used to knock Money off the sellers asking price for supposed repairs, faults etc but here it would be next to useless as the asking price is only a guide and you need to negotiate what you are willing to offer - simple as that. Be assured, from painful and costly experience, there will be loads of dodgy things the sellers dont want you to notice or know about so definitely BUYER BEWARE, even with a solicitor checking all the legal documentation and paperwork.
