The Government rejected the two plots ceded for the Health Center in Caleta "due to the acoustic footprint" of the airport
Ten years later, the Canary Islands Health Service rejected the two plots ceded by the City Council for the construction of the new outpatient clinic in Caleta de Fuste.
The government team is already working on a third alternative.
The Canary Islands Health Service has rejected the two plots, each larger than 4,000 square meters ceded by the City Council of Antigua in Caleta de Fuste for the construction of the Health Center.
The first was initially considered acceptable by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2017, however now in 2024 they have been rejected due to "the acoustic noise footprint" caused by the proximity of Fuerteventura airport.
The City Council of Antigua is already working on a third option in another area of Caleta, although it regrets the "deficient infrastructure" of health care in a municipality with 12,000 residents, and that only has a day center that does not lack recognition as a Health Center in Antigua and therefore the necessary equipment. "without emergency care or permanent ambulance as an alternative," explains the Consistory in a press release.
"For 10 years we have been working in coordination with the Canary Islands Health Service both to change the qualification and provide the center of Antigua as a Health Center with emergency service and reinforcement of the medical team and in the construction of a Health Center in Caleta de Fuste," says the mayor, Matías Peña García.
In both cases, "no progress on the part of the Government of the Canary Islands, which today rejects what it considered favorable yesterday", adds the mayor.
The El Castillo Health Center project drafted and approved "no longer complies with the regulations for its execution", and the two plots, each larger than 4,000 square meters of surface area in Caleta de Fuste ceded by the City of Antigua, the first in 2016 and the second formalized in 2023, are now rejected by the General Directorate of the Canary Islands Health Service, alleging "Not suitable" due to the acoustic footprint caused by the proximity of the airport, adds the consistorial letter.
"We regret the way the Canary Islands Health Service of the Government of the Canary Islands proceeds, but we do not give up on our objective. We are already working on the transfer of a third alternative plot in a new area, in the upper part of El Castillo," adds the mayor.
