The mayor informs the Caleta de Fuste Neighbourhood Platform of the next tender of more than five million euros in asphalting, paving, lighting and beautification of the second phase of El Castillo.

Resolving the legal framework of the upper part of El Castillo will allow expanding investment and progressively transforming residential areas.

This Tuesday, November 5, the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña, has received the representatives of the Neighbourhood Platform of Caleta de Fuste, Érica Calero and Elena Salido, along with the Town Planning Councillor, Manuel Hernández and the Councilor for Works, Services , Parks and Gardens, Juan Cabrera.

It is the second meeting that has been held since last July, between the municipal councillor, the area councillors, the secretary of the City Council of Antigua, and the Neighbourhood Platform, valuing the development, projects and improvements in the upper part of Caleta de Shank.

We appreciate the positive disposition of the current Municipal Corporation, whose detailed and sincere information shows us its implication in resolving a situation that remained blocked, without previous legislatures doing anything about it, says Calero.

I share each of the demands of the Neighbourhood Platform of Caleta de Fuste, affirms the mayor, Matías Peña, and we want to expand the technical team of the City Council of Antigua to be able to devote more time to solve the legal situation of the different phases of the mountain, especially the third phase for being the most complex.

In this sense, the municipal councillor advanced to the neighbourhood representatives the immediate investment of more than five million euros in the next year, remodelling pavements, green areas, lights and sanitation, mainly in the second phase where the City Council of Antigua can intervene with legal guarantee

The Town Planning Councillor, Manuel Hernández, explained that paving, asphalting and improvements to Relinchón streets are coming to tender soon,

Cardón, Turmero and Acebuche, to which the execution is added next year of the remodelling of the road ring that connects Pablo Picasso and Virgen de La Peña streets with an investment of more than three million euros.

For his part, the Councillor for Works, Services, Parks and Gardens, Juan Cabrera, detailed the actions that are being carried out cleaning, arrangement of planters, luminaries and the beginning of pruning 800 palm trees in the different phases of the mountain of Caleta of Fuste.

• The second phase stars this year an investment of 1,800,000 euros in asphalting, side walks, lighting and beautification of streets and roads.

• The Antigua City Council is progressing in the process of reviewing the third phase or upper part of El Castillo, after twenty years blocked.

• Improve the TV signal or avoid dumping trash indiscriminately among the main objectives.

The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña, together with the councillors for the Environment, Sports, New Technologies and Tourism, respectively, Jonathan Peña, Fernando Estupiñán, Agustín Rodríguez and Deborah Edgington, have participated in the meeting held this week with the representatives of the Caleta de Fuste Neighbourhood Platform, chaired by Érica Calero.

The situation in which the upper part of El Castillo is found amply justifies the anger of its residents, affirms the mayor, for this reason we have detailed to the representatives of the Neighbourhood Platform that after more than 20 years of blocking the necessary prescription of the third phase to be able to act, is now that the Antigua City Council is taking the first steps towards this end.

The mayor, Matías Peña, recalls that this year 1,800,000 euros will be invested in the complete transformation and improvement of Relinchón, Cardón, Turmero and Acebuche streets, as well as the upcoming remodelling of the ring that connects Pablo Picasso and Virgen de La streets. Peña with an investment of more than three million euros.

During the meeting, cleaning was highlighted as another of the issues of most concern and that should be addressed both from the responsibility of the residents and from the Antigua City Council, avoiding the indiscriminate dumping of garbage or generating improvised and illegal points as landfills.

In this regard, the Department of the Environment has reinforced the presence of posters indicating where no waste of any kind should be thrown, being an action penalized with sanctions contained in the municipal ordinance.

The road signs, horizontal and vertical, will be renewed and the possibility is even valued at the request of the Neighbors Platform itself to modify the direction of traffic in some sections, improve visibility and access.

Regarding the TV signal, the municipal officials announced the installation of a new repeater antenna, giving full coverage in Caleta de Fuste and that it will come into operation as soon as possible.

They'll say it's a different budget, Emmi Wink  That's the standard response. Rolleyes

This afternoon they were putting up some more street lights on the new path way up to the Montecastillo Center. It's already 11 months behind schedule.  They've still got to finish off, put street furniture in and put in the playground opposite the Montecastillo Center.

Been at top of hill for fifteen years and it would be nice to have paths and roads done. Speaking of repairs we had the back end of a hurricane around 2008/9 (it’s so long can’t remember when!!!!)  and a street light was bent over by a port-a-cabin at Montana Blanca Club. I have reported this to Debbie as another heavy wind could bend it a little more onto a car etc. We have paid in we deserve a little back.

The mayor and the representative of the Caleta de Fuste Neighbourhood Platform check the improvements in the upper part of El Castillo, indicating the main points in which to continue intervening.

The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña García and the representative of the Caleta de Fuste Neighbourhood Platform, Érica Calero, have visited the upper part of El Castillo, 2nd and 3rd Phase, checking the improvements in road marking, cleaning and conditioning of the streets.

It is to thank all the components of the Caleta de Fuste Neighbourhood Platform for their commitment to improve the upper part of El Castillo, being a fundamental task to collect and transmit the main needs, on which the Antigua City Council has been acting, affirms the mayor .

Along with the improvement of road signs, marking the permitted parking areas, the direction of the roads and pedestrian crossings, I have also been able to report the installation of the TV antenna that offers full coverage to all homes in the area , and Matías Peña adds, as well as highlighting the strengthening of the technical and legal office with the aim, among others, of advancing the municipal reception process for the area.

During the visit, the neighbourhood representative in the framework of the conditioning actions that are being carried out, has requested to increase the number of pedestrian crossings, that of gardeners or beautifiers in the medians, as well as has insisted on the security and Police surveillance that requires an increase in the number of residents in the 2nd and 3rd phase of El Castillo.

And adds Érica Calero, it is remarkable the attitude and will shown by the municipal institution, with which we hold regular meetings with the mayor and councilmen, preparing a script and schedule of action according to the needs we raise and the possibilities of intervention of the City Council of Ancient.
