I really hope that this figure is a daily figure? at that rate, if they test everyone on the island it will be 2025/26 before it is completed

Some further information on testing here in Fuerteventura.

AM-CC requires the government to carry out the PCR tests in Fuerteventura

Majorera Assembly - Canary Coalition requires the Government of the Canary Islands to assume once and for all its competences in the field of Health and begin to do and test the COVID 19 on the Island. In this way, delays of up to 48 hours that are registered until now as the evidence is being sent to Tenerife and Gran Canaria for analysis.

The Fuerteventura Hospital has had the technical equipment in laboratories necessary to carry out these analyzes since 1995. It is only necessary to incorporate the specific reagents of COVID 19. However, Healthcare has chosen to send the tests outside, instead of bringing the reagents necessary to carry out the analyzes on the Island and shorten the response times.

In Lanzarote, for example, the reagents have arrived on the Island and the tests are already carried out at your Hospital, without having to wait for results from outside.

We recall that this carelessness of those responsible for the Ministry of Health of the Government, comes from the advertising campaign of the president of the Cabildo, Blas Acosta, who in his daily dissertation on April 13 announced that he had bought machinery from the BOSCH brand to do analysis at the Fuerteventura Hospital.

All this, with the complicit silence of Health, knowing that this machinery already existed in the Hospital of Fuerteventura, did not even deign to correct it.

The worst thing is that two weeks later, not even the BOSCH devices promised by the Cabildo have arrived. Neither Health has brought reagents to activate the equipment that for years had already been installed in the Hospital.

What's more, in the face of Health's silence, the Council also announced that the acquisition of another 5 machines, also with the same company, had been arranged for all the non-capital islands. That yes, all this would be defrayed by the Government of the Canary Islands. The president of the Cabildo would only do the intermediation.

The resignation of the Ministry of Health in Fuerteventura regarding COVID 19 has already had other chapters, such as that of duplicate analysis in the Residence for the Elderly of Casillas.

Also the disqualifications made on different social groups. And even up to the spokesperson in sanitary matters assumed from the Cabildo, generating a constant confusion of data.

But now it is even worse. The laboratory machinery announced as being of immediate purchase has not only not arrived in Fuerteventura, but there is also no evidence that it is on any other non-capital island.

Respirators

It should be remembered that on March 23, the next acquisition of 10 respirators was also anticipated from the Cabildo, which after a few days remained at 7.

With the addition that out of these 7 respirators, 3 were actually DRAGER OXYLOG brand machinery that had been removed from disused ambulances for years in the municipality of Pájara.

The kits had a high degree of obsolescence and are not suitable for use with COVID 19 patients.

So much so that the manufacturing company itself had warned the Spanish Health Service a few days before, and in writing, that this model of respirators are only for temporary use in ambulances and interventions for emergencies, accidents, etc. Not for long-term use and in hospital facilities.

The other 4 equipment purchased were actually monitors / respirators for residents of the Casillas del Ángel senior center who went to the Hospital, and which are also not suitable for ventilation on the floor for COVID 19 patients. They are monitors / respirators for another patient profile.

50,000 PCR test

The population of Fuerteventura is also aware of the announcement of the Cabildo of March 30, with a plane included, of the arrival of 50,000 tests on the Island, which in a matter of days would allow the state of the epidemic to be detected.

25 days later the only thing we know about the 50,000 tests announced from the Cabildo is that they arrived as they arrived. Today tests are still lacking in Fuerteventura for many sensitive social groups and professionals.

Thanks Lorena. This all seems to be par for the course, likely doesn't only apply to Fuerteventura alone, but a national situation.

Thanks Sam, just out of interest I have just googled the Canaries Population and it came up with this -

At a population of 2.1million and at that rate of testing it is going to take over 2 more years to test every one ?

If you enlarge the image it indicates that Fuerteventura has a population of 122,000, I seem to recall that Captain reported somewhere the latest official figure was 116,000 up 3000 in 2018/9 due possibly to all those taking Residencia before Brexit?

The fourth round of seroprevalence of COVID-19 in the Canary Islands begins on Monday

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands begins on Monday, November 9, the contact calls to begin the fourth wave of the Sero-epidemiological Survey of the infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Spain 'ENE-COVID'. A study launched by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Carlos III Health Institute and the National Institute of Statistics (INE) to better understand the characteristics of the Covid-19 pandemic in Spain.

The objectives of the fourth round are to estimate the current seroprevalence of antibodies to SARS-Cov2 in Spain, by autonomous communities and provinces, as well as by age and sex; estimate the seroconversion rate, that is, the presence of antibodies in an uninfected population during the first wave of the epidemic, study the temporal evolution of the presence of detectable circulating antibodies and the factors associated with their persistence, especially their relationship with presence of symptoms.
It will take advantage of previous work and contact the same cohort of individuals, with the main objective of having updated estimates of seroprevalence at this time of the Pandemic. On the other hand, it is important to estimate the seropositivization rates in the population that has not been previously exposed to the virus after lifting the confinement and recovering work and school activity.
Methodology of this fourth wave
As in the previous rounds, the selected households will be contacted by phone and all residents of the home will be invited to participate. If they accept, they will be assigned an appointment at the health center designated for the study, where they will undergo an epidemiological survey and a rapid antibody test. Unlike the previous ones, this one will only offer venipuncture to those participants who have tested positive in any of the rounds (including this one) and to a pre-selected 15% of the seronegative.
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands encourages and recommends the selected population to participate in the ENE-COVID study because the new data from the seroprevalence study will allow:

  • Estimate the total population that has been infected so far and how many correspond to the second wave.

  • Estimate the detection percentage, that is, of the total number of infected patients, that is being detected by the health services of the Autonomous Communities through diagnostic tests of active infection (PCR and antigen tests).
In addition, the study will provide epidemiological information and relevant data to study:

  • Duration of immunity generated by circulating antibody-mediated SARS-CoV-2 infection

  • Appearance of reinfections.

  • Evolution of asymptomatic infections.
Therefore, the information provided by the ENE-COVID study is relevant for adjusting diagnostic strategies, improving predictive models and systems, and designing vaccination strategies.
