Unlicenced kite surfing operation in Coralljo
#1
The Fiscal and Border Patrol of the Guardia Civil in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) have sanctioned two people following an inspection of a recreational boat in Corralejo on 27th September, which was preparing to set sail with six people on board to practise kitesurfing, without the required permits.

According to the Guardia Civil, the inspection formed part of their ongoing checks on tourism-related activities to ensure compliance with both legal and safety regulations. During the inspection, officers found that the vessel lacked all of the necessary documentation to operate legally.

The skipper failed to present any authorisation papers, the mandatory insurance, proof of registration with the Social Institute for Maritime Workers, or a professional qualification allowing them to operate.

These requirements are essential, not only to guarantee the legality of the activity but also to ensure the safety of everyone on board in the event of an emergency.

Following the discovery, additional checks were carried out at the premises of the company allegedly organising the excursion. They found that the boat actually belonged to a different person than the one initially reported.

The owner later admitted that the boat’s documentation was not up to date and confirmed that it had been rented to the supposed skipper for the trip.

The Guardia Civil have said that the case highlights several irregularities which could amount to breaches of Merchant Marine regulations regarding the authorisation and operation of boats.
