Video Camera purchase- recommendations
#1
Hi,

Looking to treat myself to a video camera. Disappointingly, Electron only sell the Go-Pro type cameras, so I'm looking for recommendations as to where I might find a good camera shop that stocks video cameras.

Any recommendations appreciated, TIA.

TOM.

This is a big topic Big Grin

I do quite a bit of video production and have used all types of cameras.

First question is:
What are you looking to do with the camera?
Film around the house?
Film when outside?
Vlogging??

Second Question:

What is your budget?

I have used a few Canary Camera suppliers who have great prices and very good delivery times.
Depending which camera, I could recomend a number of places, but none local.

I would actually advise against buying in a brick and mortar as they are very likely to have old stock at the same rrp prices, and many will provide generic advice.

Depending on what sort of video even an average phone can be better than an action cam.  Different trade offs. OTOH if he needs to film the next Bond movie the needs change  Smile

Thanks all, especially McAdam.  I am talking with him on the back channel and will post further once I have reached a decision on this.

Hi Tom

I have started using the following listed below, with very good results...

iPhone 11

Zhiyun Smooth Q2 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer for Smartphone (£55 eBay)

Filmic Pro - Video Camera (£15)

The main advantages for me, are compactness (fits in your pocket) and size, making it less intrusive when filming.

This is sooo relatable. I’d recommend checking out B&H Photo Video or Adorama. They offer a fantastic range of options beyond just Go-Pros. Of course, Amazon is worth mentioning Smile

Both BandH and Adoroma are major shops but I'd guess most people here are European. Ordering from NYC seems a little extreme.
