Volcanic activity in Canary Islands 2021
Wow, that is a sight!

I agree with you Jand… its beautiful to see and experience - but its also very scary thinking about what the worst case scenario is.

We are packing the car full of “Survival Stuffs” and have an off road route planned to 300m above sea level on the east cost of Fuerte.

Just worried about the delay of alerts… if there is something… we wont know till its too late.

I am closely monitoring the situation as some friends have a property that is directly in the path.

There was some light seismic activity here in fuerte from about 4am till 11am - but seems to have calmed now.

I assume you are aware that the last time a volcano erupted on this Island was 4000-5000BC? and the highest elevation on this island is circa 2550 feet and that is in Jandia  Pico de Zarza?

Yup, Aware.... Not worried too much about eruptions here... Just the small chance for a landslide over there and the potential effect from that.

Also, We have had an increase of seismic activity on Fuerte since 4am today.

Update on Volcanic Eruption on La Palma.

The Volcanic Warning has been raised to - Level 2 RED.

Thousands have been evacuated, Homes have been destroyed and flights cancelled as the eruption continues. The Spanish Military and civil guard have increase deployment on La Palma.

What has been described as walls of lava up to 20 feet high is sweeping through villages destroying property, infrastructure, and crops. Thankfully there remains no reports of fatalities or injuries. Tourists in the area have been evacuated to the island of Tenerife.

Experts have warned the eruption could last for weeks or even months.

With regards to the Tsunami threat – Although there may be a risk of a Tsunami, if it occurs it would most likely be localised to that area only!.

We continue to stress that the risk of a Major Tsunami is extremely LOW and is a extreme worst case scenario (Despite what some media are reporting) The situation is being closely monitored.

If you are in La Palma and need information, please call 112.

I am not on my laptop using my mobile so not so good in adding links. I have read deformation is now at 22 cms and increasing.

At the moment it's only the vents that are erupting from Cumbre Viaje I refer them as her babies cumbre viaje is the main volcano the worry is more vents could open and the worst scenario is that the Volcano could also erupt.

After 11 years of following the activity on the Canary islands I am actually finding it hard now to add posts on the activity on La Palma there is so much ongoing destruction and sadness just thankful there has been no reports of casualties or injuries.

This link https://youtu.be/1odOF3j5F8Y is a life video feed .

You will hear dogs barking they can hear sounds that people cannot and I have heard explosions and seen smoke change colour as if the dogs had pre warned .

I have just seen this.

La Palma is a catastrophic zone"
The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Tores, announces that he has requested European solidarity funds after the meeting with the Cohesion and Reform Commission.
