14 kilos of cocaine in luggage in Lanzarote.
It is not easy to pass drugs in an airport under the watchful eye of the Police. Much less if it is 14 kilos of cocaine stuffed in the same luggage, but that does not mean that there is no one who tries. This is what has happened at the César Manrique Airport in Lanzarote, where the National Police has had two men and a woman of 75, 40 and 38 years of age respectively, all of them with Police records, as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime.
The person in charge of transporting the drug was arrested at the same terminal and the other two arrested as recipients of the narcotic substance. The suspicions of Police officials confirmed that the arrested at the airport had about 14 kilograms of cocaine in his luggage.
The drug was located in a periodic control on hot flights. In one of them, from Madrid and this in turn from the Dominican Republic, investigators identified a 75-year-old man who raised their suspicions. The Police efforts allowed to verify that he was transporting cocaine hidden inside two speakers that were in his luggage. A total of 13,280 kilograms of cocaine.
In addition to the one arrested in the premises of the César Manrique Airport, the Police agents proceeded to the arrest of a man and a woman 40 and 38 years of age respectively, with Police records, as those responsible for the reception of the seized drug. Thus, it was possible to dismantle a criminal organization that introduced drugs to the island of Lanzarote from the Dominican Republic.
In the Police operation, 13,280 kilograms of cocaine, three mobile phones and 1,000 euros in cash were seized.
The three detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which ordered the immediate imprisonment of all of them. This is the twelfth "mule" arrested by agents of the National Police at the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote.
Subsequently, on November 22, 2022, it was verified that the phone was still activated and providing geolocation inside the same complex at those 2.5 km away from where the crime is committed, specifically located in the middle of 5 apartments arranged online, also coinciding with the address of the alleged perpetrator.
Finally, on November 28, in the framework of the Police operation in order to clarify the facts, the person involved was arrested, also achieving the recovery of most of the effects reported as stolen.
The detainee along with the relevant proceedings has been made available to the corresponding Court of Instruction in functions guard of Puerto del Rosario.
