The judge of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in charge of the 'Mediator's case' has summoned two new defendants to testify on July 19 and 23: the businessman Miguel Alemán Bolaños and the former general director of the Fight Against Climate Change of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Domingo Fernández Herrera.
Fernández Herrera, a member of the PSOE majorero, is the current island director of Ecological Transition of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura.
Magistrate María de los Ángeles Lorenzo calls on the former high-ranking official of the Canary Islands Government to appear in her court as a defendant in crimes of bribery, influence peddling, prevarication, and disclosure of secrets and Bolaños is cited as possibly responsible for crimes of bribery and influence peddling, according to a ruling to which EFE has had access.
The name of José Domingo Fernández Herrera had already appeared some time ago in the summary of this alleged plot of bribes to public officials, where there are photographs of him with the mediator who gives his name to the plot, Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte.
These are images of a meal that was held in a restaurant in Fuerteventura on October 9, 2020, which was also attended by two of the initial defendants in the case: the former socialist deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, one of the alleged ringleaders of the case, and the businessman Antonio Bautista.
The latter had resorted to the mediation of Fuentes Curbelo and Navarro Tacoronte to try to set up a subsidiary of his companies in the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), the low-tax area of the islands. Specifically, Cleanergetic Insular.
The judge not only summons the former director general of the Fight against Climate Change to testify for possible crimes but also asks the Police to investigate his assets in the years to which the case goes back.
For his part, businessman Miguel Alemán Bolaños must appear on July 19 as an investigator and also in his case the judge asks that his assets be investigated.
Bolaños is the owner of the company Solar Energy Revolution SL. In the summary, his name is mentioned among those who allegedly made payments to the Fuentes Curbelo plot through the amateur Football team that he presided over in Fuerteventura.
The judge has requested - and has been granted - a third extension of the six-month investigation given the number of defendants, which is around fifty, and the large volume of documents collected (the case is already in 30 volumes).
