The annoying thing about picking up a car at busy times is the fact that very few companies open the desk facing the arrivals hall Last Sat I tried to use the Autoreisen desk whilst waiting for the luggage but despite the fact there was nobody at either side of the office with three staff doing nothing, I was directed to the main hall where I was fifth in the queue once I had collected the luggage.

Having said that I cannot really complain having paid £600 approx for 81 days Hire
 (And upgraded to Citroen Cactus)

Was there last Saturday morning also.  Had to bring our 'Payless' Punto back to have a tyre changed.  The airport carpark was heaving.  People were leaving their cars on return in any available spaces whether the right rental company spaces or not.  We are fortunate in that we can travel any day of the week (being retired) but I would seriously look at which flights are due to arrive at any particular day/time to avoid clashes with flights from Italy/Germany etc.  This time we arrived on a Tuesday evening  and apart from a Binter flight we had the place to ourselves.  Out of the airport in 20 minutes in the hire car. 
p.s.   the tyre change was effected very efficiently in less than 30 mins.

We arrived Sat 5th Jan and despite being pre-booked with Payless it still took 1.25hrs to get sorted. One of the main problems was there being 1 lady who was trying her best to deal with both the outgoings and returns. The Cicar desk had 2 or 3 staff on with hardly anybody in their queue, surely it wouldn't have been too much trouble to send someone over to get things moving quicker. BTW when I inspected my car there was a nice crease in one of the front wings and also several scrapes and scuffs here and there. Dreading having to go back in the terminal I collared the Cicar manager in the parking lot and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "no problem just take". When I returned the car Mid Tues am the Payless booth had the longest queue and yes just the same lady on duty. Poor Woman.

Ask to complete a complaint form! If enough customers complain about the Qs they might do something. You can make it clear on the form that you are not complaining about the staff, just the lack of! When you've completed the claim form they will keep their copy and give the others to you. One is your copy to keep and one is a copy for you to send to the Gobierno - you should also be given a paper with their address on it.
Please complain - it can help you in the future and it can help the staff!
Make the comment about opening the windows on the baggage claim side as well.
