Airport Passenger Numbers in 2020
#21
My flight out from Dublin on 8th October was cancelled I was offered to change it to Saturday 10th and my return on the 17th was still ok. With the current situation I decided to take the refund as I already have over €900 in vouchers for flights previously cancelled. I’m hoping to get out for Christmas now, but I’m not booking any flights at the moment

From Radio Sintonia:

Tourism confirms with airlines the recovery of 47% of connectivity at the end of the year.

Air connectivity with the Canary Islands already registered signs of greater recovery for the month of December based on the flights scheduled and reported by the airlines. According to the information compiled by the public company Promotur, dependent on the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands , the airlines have planned a progressive incorporation of flights starting next week that will arrive in the second half of month to 950 flights a week and a minimum offer of 173,129 seats in the last week of the month, which represents 47% of the air capacity offered in the same period of 2019.

According to the regional councilor for Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, these figures are, despite representing almost half of last year, “good data that we base, both the Government of the Canary Islands and the tourism and air operators sector, giving by fact that from December access to the Canary Islands will be more flexible in terms of health controls ”.

Castilla referred to the fact that “we fully trust in being able to unify the criteria of sanitary control in the destination and that this happens by allowing tourists access to reliable and cheap diagnostic tests, so that this requirement is not an impediment to their decisions about trip to the Canary Islands ”, as it is being this week with the obligation, by virtue of the decree of the Ministry of Health, to present a PCR test with a negative result on arrival at the airport. The requirement of this test is creating difficulties for travelers to access it due to the high cost and availability in the countries of origin. The Canary Islands, however, had contemplated the use of antigen tests, which are cheaper and more accessible, also in line with the recommendation of the European Commission in this regard.

Among the good forecasts for the recovery of connectivity is also included the foreseeable lack of definition that the United Kingdom Government will decree for its citizens as of December 3, opening again the possibility of trips abroad. Although, although it has been anticipated that the return to England will have to be quarantined, it is taken for granted that the Canary Islands will remain outside this requirement, given that it is still considered a safe area given its low epidemiological index. A consideration that reinforces the Canary Islands destination as the only winter destination to which you can travel.

Precisely, it has been the restrictive measures to the movements of its citizens by the main countries of origin which has meant that in the current month of November the programmed connectivity was only 27% of what it was in the same month last year. November has thus had a measure of 92,000 places offered per week, compared to the 173,000 scheduled for next month.
On the other hand, and according to the information provided by the airlines, of the 950 flights scheduled in the busiest weeks, which coincide with the last two of this year, 362 flights come from the Peninsula and 588 are international flights.
