Theft of diesel from a truck in Fuerteventura worth almost 560 euros.
The Civil Guard of the Main Post of Morro Jable in Fuerteventura, arrested on September 6 a 51-year-old man with a Police record for three crimes of robbery with force and three crimes of theft that occurred at the end of August and the beginning of September 2022, for stealing diesel from the fuel tank of a truck that was parked in a parking lot in the town of Morro Jable. Also for committing three thefts in an establishment, stealing three drills being the total value of them of 519.70 euros.
Knowledge of the facts
The Civil Guard was aware of the Events that occurred as a result of two complaints filed at the Main Post of Morro Jable, Events that occurred at the end of August 2022, communicating that when he parked at night his refrigerated truck type vehicle in a parking area, the diesel was stolen from inside the fuel tank, reaching a total of approximately 350 liters, with a value of about 480 euros. The aforementioned vehicle is used to carry out freight transport services from the island of Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
The Events occurred in the early hours of the morning between the time slot from 22:30 hours and 04:00 hours, and meant a great economic loss for the company, in addition to preventing the transport professional from being able to start their jobs normally.
The Investigation Area of the
Main Post of Morro Jable carried out the appropriate Police investigations and the various steps to clarify the facts that occurred, since the crimes were carried out in the same parking area of heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses and with the same modus operandi. As a result of the data obtained, the agents proceeded to carry out operational surveillance devices in the time slots where the criminal acts were perpetrated.
Therefore, on September 6, the agents proceeded to the arrest in flagrante delicto of the alleged author, specifically at the same time that he was stealing the fuel in the process of filling, in addition the investigators also discovered in the place a full diesel bottle.
The modus operandi carried out by the author was to park his vehicle in the vicinity of the truck, and then go to the heavy vehicle with several bottles to carry out his task. Therefore, once at the scene of the Events, he forced the lid of the fuel tank, extracted the diesel by means of the suction technique using hoses and depositing said fuel in 20-liter plastic bottles to later proceed to its transport.
However, the alleged perpetrator always chose vehicles with large fuel tanks, to guarantee significant amounts of fuel. In addition, the detainee was well acquainted with the area and took advantage of the location to commit the criminal act.
The Civil Guard intervened inside the vehicle of the involved 8 plastic bottles and utensils to suck the diesel, being able to recover part of the stolen diesel.
On the other hand, the same individual was arrested for the commission of three other crimes of theft that occurred in an establishment in the town of Morro Jable, where the author of the acts entered on three occasions on different days and time slot in the month of August of the current year, subtracting each day a drill up to the total of 3, amounting to the total of what was stolen to 519.70 euros, being such facts denounced in the Post of the Civil Guard of Morro Jable. The owner of the store provided the images of the security cameras which were fundamental for the clarification of the crime.
The detainee, together with the proceedings instructed for this purpose, was placed at the disposal of the Acting Court of Guard of Puerto del Rosario.
The Civil Guard recommends extreme security measures in vehicles, with the installation of various anti-theft systems to prevent them from being victims of a crime of fuel theft.
