A translation from the press release:
The Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, which directs Sebastián Franquis, today has put out to tender the contracting of the work of the Puerto del Rosario-La Caldereta highway, with the corresponding variants on the FV-1 roads, FV-2 and FV-3 for an amount of 117,856,177 euros and with a maximum date to submit offers until next
February 3. This tender gives an answer to the agreements negotiated with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to prioritize the road infrastructure works necessary to close the so-called North-South Axis that vertebrates the island.
The works will have an execution period of 54 months, once the project is awarded and the staking act is signed with the company that is awarded. The projected route is located within the second section of the Insular Axis of Fuerteventura, in a north-south direction, which connects the La Caldereta-Corralejo section, recently put into service, with the airport. The route includes a 17-kilometer highway, with separate lanes of two lanes in each direction, 2.5-meter outer shoulders, and one-meter interior roads, and five links along the road.
This route connects the link between La Caldereta and Corralejo, so the connection between the north of Fuerteventura and the airport of the island will be defined by a fast lane of four lanes when the work is finished. In addition, thanks to this variant, it will be possible to double the capacity of the ring road to Puerto del Rosario or FV-3, which contributes to significantly reduce the accident rate on the interurban roads of that island, to increase the flow of traffic and reduce the acoustic incidence in the environment.
After modifying the project to include the 17 conditions for the approval of the environmental impact statement, the archaeological site of the Tinojay Ravine will be respected, in addition to moving away from the hubaras sighting areas and the existing route in the ring road will be used to the maximum to Puerto del Rosario (FV-3), without affecting the population growth of the surrounding urban areas, thus adapting to the forecasts of the Island Management Plan of the island (PIOF).
These works will have the quality control and surveillance works, so the complementary security and control contract for an amount of 3,818,110 euros, in five annuities, that will allow the control of the execution, has been put out to tender Monthly measurement of the work executed and the guarantee of compliance with the conditions of the health and safety plan. This complementary contract will have a validity coinciding with the works, of 54 months, to which two months will be added to carry out activities in the previous phase and two months for the final certification and liquidation phase.
