Corralejo Port passenger numbers
#1
Noticias:

The port of Corralejo moves 433,283 passengers in the first half despite the terrible facilities.

With unbeatable port facilities on the island of Lanzarote, which is not carried out at par in Corralejo, the line between the two islands moved the first semester 433,283 passengers, but for the first time is behind the port Gran Canario de Agaete, which moves 448,302 passengers. The terrible level of infrastructure in the port area of Corralejo continues to demand improvements that are paralyzed year after year.

In this sense, the port facilities of the network of Puertos Canarios, a public company chaired by the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, have registered during the first half of this year a notable increase in passenger traffic compared to last year with 2,002,885 users, almost one million more than in the same period of 2021, which certifies the recovery of the usual occupancy levels prior to the health emergency decreed in 2020 due to COVID-19.

Among the ports that most highlight the increase in passengers is Las Nieves, in the Gran Canarian municipality of Agaete, which becomes the busiest of the facilities managed by the Government of the Canary Islands, with 448,302 travelers, a figure well above the 257,609 of last year in this same period. These figures make the port of Agaete the main maritime connection hub between the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The corridor between Corralejo (Fuerteventura) and Playa Blanca (Lanzarote), with 433,283 passengers, experiences a considerable increase compared to 2021, when registered regular line travelers were 196,115. In addition, this increase coincides with the start-up of the new dock of the port of the south of Lanzarote, which has provided shipping companies with a greater frequency of journeys.

Another outstanding rise in the facilities managed by Puertos Canarios, under the direction of its manager Manuel Ortega, is that of the port of Morro Jable, south of Fuerteventura, with 250,947 users compared to the 159,675 of the same year in 2021 on the line that connects this island with Gran Canaria. The passenger traffic between the island of La Graciosa and Lanzarote through the port of Órzola places this pier at 201,414 passengers, a figure even higher than those of 2019, when 188,228 passengers were registered in the same period.

As for vehicle traffic in the network of facilities of Puertos Canarios, the figure amounts to 509,279 cars in the first half of the year, as well as that of buses is close to a thousand movements between islands with 959, figures much higher than those of 2021, when it did not exceed 154. These data demonstrate once again the importance of a good maritime connection between islands for local tourism development. The managing director of Puertos Canarios, Manuel Ortega, values these figures since, according to him, "there has been a remarkable growth of the economy in the Canary Islands, given that we are recovering figures from 2019, just before the pandemic, and our network of autonomous ports once again becomes one of the most important in Spain since we resume the growth we had been experiencing years ago".
