Growing Fruit Trees on Fuerteventura
#11
Update on the latest round of fruit tree planting.

Australian cherry in. 2 more oranges, 1 Mandarin and another lime in. Mulberry in. Fig in.

Nectarine has 2 blossoms, hopefully it will go in this coming weekend. The hole is dug and we have nearly finished the pergola/frame that will be over it  Thumbs Up

Red banana is still waiting to go in. I need some more coco fibre substrate from Happy Plants first - hopefully their delivery will arrive this week.

I've sprouted a coconut!

Not sure I actually want it planted in the garden so will pot it. It was just a grow challenge  Wink Big Grin set by a friend in Florida where they sprout like crazy!

Embarrassed apologies due! What I thought was a sprout is actually a leaf blown in from elsewhere and lodged in the husk - oops  Blush

A Mandarin planted a few months ago shed all it's leaves soon after planting. I'm delighted that it's growing a new crop of leaves and there are blossom buds amongst them!

Bananas ripening at long last! How many bananas can a person eat in a day?? Sharing with friends, shame they don't grow them as well in order to share back at another time.

Lots of blossom now on the citrus:

Can't discern any scent though, perhaps this wind is dispersing it.

Time to spray the leaves with Kaolin solution to deter Citrus Leaf Miner:

I'm so excited! I've got two tiny limes 🤣🤣

Lots of blossom on the trees so I'm hopeful for a selection of fruit this year - I really didn't expect this much blossom so soon after planting so I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't set. Yeah, right!

Bananas, bananas everywhere!
Banana bread tomorrow and found a recipe for banana jam. Only two more hands left on the tree. Individual fruits have been dropping as they ripen this afternoon so I had to cut some even though I had loads indoors ready to eat!

What about the wind here? Do I need to take precautions against it? I've never been very keen on gardening but we would like to get some fruit trees planted.

What type of fruit are you thinking of growing?
I've just bought 2 coconut trees and they'll be fine once their roots get going.
Some fruit trees are more vulnerable than others.
