Man rescued from drowning after boat capsizes near Fuerteventura
#1
A 68-year-old man narrowly escaped drowning on Sunday when the boat he was traveling in capsized just 40 metres from the shore off Playa Blanca, in the capital of Fuerteventura.

Emergency services responded promptly to the incident, which occurred at around 10:00 am, according to reports from 112 emergency services.

The man, who was displaying moderate symptoms of near-drowning, received medical attention from personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC). He was subsequently transported by ambulance to Fuerteventura General Hospital in Puerto Rosario for further treatment.

Following the capsizing, all three occupants of the boat managed to reach safety with the assistance of local firefighters and nearby swimmers who were present in the area at the time.

A GES helicopter had been deployed to the scene but was ultimately not required for the rescue. The Local Police worked in collaboration with other emergency response teams to manage the situation effectively.

Authorities have yet to release further details on the cause of the accident, but rough sea conditions are thought to be the issue as the islands have had Weather warnings for over a week for marine conditions.

The public are reminded to take necessary precautions when engaging in water activities, particularly during adverse Weather conditions.
