That is certainly the case in The UK, where you can not apply for planning permission for a property you do not own, although in some cases, you can apply for Outline Planning Permission on a property you hold an option on, I cannot remember  { or want to } the details but it is something to do with classification of the property and each individual County Councils Future Planning guidelines, its got some fancy name which again escapes me, anyway the point I am labouring to make does that kind of regulation exists here? when most things seem to depend on how big the brown envelopes are  Rolleyes Rolleyes

That I don’t know John but I am sure it is a BIG part of it  Smile Smile the brown envelopes, I mean !!

There is a lot of work going on in the basement under their store room, next to the underground car park.

Extending the underground carpark possibly, to allow them space to extend over the existing carpark?

They are still working underground at Mercadona.  It looks as if they are re-inforcing the ground floor.

They were controllong the in/out to the underground car park this morning with a man and a woman using control signs as only one car park ramp was being used.

Has to have some effect in my opinion,  but they are obviously trying to get in front of the Lidl opening, they have been working on the underground car park for the last month or so, so I am assuming that they are enlarging that to give them room for an extension, it was only a year or eighteen months ago that they did a mini refit, and took out the fresh meat counter, and replaced it with the ridiculous service point they have there now I cannot imagine that there were plans to extend then, so it has to be Lidl driven.

You would have thought so Sam, I do not see the logic as I have said before, it is never full in there, and we are there twice a week most weeks in fact when we were there yesterday at 15:00 ish there was only two checkouts open, and i do not ever remember  a time when they were all open, they refitted Rosario some time back and the only difference is the layout, the range is the same so I just cannot work out what they will gain, if the range is the same but the footage is bigger all we are going to see is where they now, for example, have 8 metres for pasta they could have the same product spread over 12 metres

When I first moved here in 2003 there was no Mercadona, no Padilla Spar at the Atlantico, no Lidl and no HiperDino in the Las Rotonas Shopping Center.  Since then they have all opened, as well as the Superdino in El Matorral.

The choice was to use any of the HiperDino Express shops in Caleta (they are still all open) or go to Puerto and use the HiperDino on Calle Juan de Betancourt or Supermacado Rita.

There is so much choice now, and not that many more people to do shopping.

The Impescasa in Los Pozos, just south of Las Rotondas, was called Supermercado Lion in 2003.  It was expensive, but was then taken over by Impescasa, but closed down a couple of years ago.

Another supermarket that opened up a few years ago is the Padilla Spar in Las Granadas, just south of the hospital.

Just a heads up, I have been involved in many refits and extensions over the years, and while I do not know how they operate here, in the UK the system is to destock as much as possible in the weeks leading up to an extension/refit, dry goods i.e cans/jars/packets/paperware, should not be affected, but ambient product i.e. packet meat, cheese and other such like product might be difficult or impossible to obtain particularly in the week ending 28/09, in the \\\\\Uk the hassle, and cost of having to transfer this type of product to another store is considered too much, so basically this type of product does not ger ordered in the weeks preceding a refit/extension, having said that we were there this morning, and there is little or no sign of any stock shortages, and it was busy, but that I assume was due to Monday,s fiesta

Possibly on any ambient product in the last 3/4 days, at least you would in the UK, no store manager is going to accept product with a very short shelf life but who knows?
