Moncloa reiterates that the Oliva Beach concession is a state responsibility and orders its demolition

It states that the Royal Decree that transferred part of the powers regarding costs to the Autonomous Community is “literal”

The Government of Spain has responded to the Canary Islands Executive that the “compensatory” concessions on the maritime-terrestrial public domain, such as the one held by the company Geafond Number One Lanzarote to manage the RIU Oliva Beach hotel, are a state and not autonomic jurisdiction, so demands its demolition.

In a writing published this Tuesday after the Council of Ministers, La Moncloa has responded to the request for incompetence formulated by the regional government in relation to the resolution of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of February 27 that declares the expiration of the concession of one of the RIU hotels in the Dunas de Corralejo and orders its demolition.

However, the Canarian Government understands that it has “exclusive” competence in matters of coastal planning, as indicated in the Statute of Autonomy, and that this includes the management of occupation titles of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, including all the concessions on said space without any distinction.

The Canarian cabinet has announced that it will go to the Contentious Court for this. In his request to the national Executive, he "denies the differentiation" between concessions and defends that, if the State is really competent for the latter, for the "compensatory" concessions, it should have made it explicit in the royal decree that transferred services and functions of the General Administration of the State to the Archipelago in matters of coasts in 2023.

We first stayed there in February 1979, it was a Novotel back then, and they were talking about demolition then! not in any of our lifetimes I think.
