The Socialist Party (PSOE) of Fuerteventura highlights the "port operational value" of the expansion of the commercial dock of Puerto del Rosario to "improve the service to current maritime traffic and assume with guarantees" future maritime connections such as that of Tarfaya, as advanced by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. Its secretary general, Benito Núñez, announced the imminent start of the expansion works, a project financed by the Canary Islands ERDF Operational Program with 38 million euros and an execution period of 17 months.
In line with the position set by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and in accordance with European Union regulations, the Majorero socialists support the reactivation of the maritime line between the ports of Puerto del Rosario and Tarfaya "from the private initiative" of the shipping companies with the strategic support of the public administration.
"With these conditions of regulatory compliance and business profitability, the shipping company that took the initiative would give rise to the decisive support of the public administrations and most of the political organizations of Fuerteventura," explains Blas Acosta.
The leader of the Majorero socialists gave as an example the preparatory steps being carried out between the governments of Spain and Morocco to resolve customs security issues, in the event that the line is reactivated, and "thus guarantee phytosanitary control, an aspect to which we pay a lot of attention"
In this sense, he explains that just as European regulations require a private operator to take the initiative within the framework of the full liberalisation of the commercial maritime sector, the maritime connection between two countries requires both governments to adjust their port infrastructures and their administrative organisation to respond to a possible reactivation of connections.
