Negative Tests for Tourists ?

From the 14th to the 22nd if your are staying in registered accommodation in the Canaries you need a negative test either taken up to 72hrs before you arrive or are tested on arrival and if that test  is not negative you then have to self isolate in a place the authorities designate.

From the 23rd ANYONE arriving anywhere in Spain from a designated HIGH RISK (RED) place of origin has to have a negative test taken in the 72hours prior to arrival.

Happy to be corrected if that is not the case.

So where is this checked now, at the airport on arrival? Are they doing checks in arrivals halls?

It is not being checked yet - as per the post it's from the 23rd of November. As you're asking though - it will be very interesting indeed to see where the checks will take place from the 23rd onwards. Potentially it could already be checked at your point of departure...

Has anyone been through all this - the maximum 72 hours requirement sounds very challenging, especially with the possibility of swab testing not bringing a conclusive result (for example a sample not collected correctly).

Really want to get back and enjoy our house but this is a huge amount of hassle. May just wait it out...

While we are in lockdown theoretically we are not supposed to travel abroad so unlikely someone has gone through this yet.  If anyone is going away after 2nd December please share your experience here.

Scotland is not in lockdown although it is illegal to travel from an area outside your own council area, which makes travelling to airports tricky. So In many cases it’s illegal to travel to the airport but not illegal to fly to Fuerteventura!
However I fear requiring a PCR test is going to put so many people off and cause even more hardship to the local businesses in Fuerteventura.
Also Ryanair have now started cancelling flights all over the shop, presumably because these were flights are not full enough to justify flying, whereas before although the flights were nothing like full on departure they were booked up with no refunds given.
I just hope the Vaccine gives us some hope of returning sometime next year.

Just to add the relevant Q&A text:

Is there a COVID-19 screening service?

Yes, from Friday 27 November you will be able to book a COVID-19 screening test via ExpressTest, with the first appointments available from Monday 30 November.

The site, located within the Long Stay Car Park in Gatwick South Terminal, will offer a fast and accurate lab-analysed PCR swab test. Air passengers and any employee based at Gatwick Airport can book a test for a reduced rate of £60. It is also available to the general public for £99. A group discount is also offered, with up to 30% off for groups of four or more, for those who are booking the full priced test.

When arriving for your appointment follow the signs for South Terminal Long Stay Car Park, and then signs for ExpressTest. Staff on site will direct you through the drive through facility and you will be swabbed while you remain in your car.

You will typically receive your results via text or email by the end of the following day, along with a Fit to fly certificate. If you plan to use this fit to fly certificate for travel, you must check with your airline before booking the test if it meets the specific requirements of your arrival destination.

To book a test (Booking portal goes live on Friday 27 November), visit www.expresstest.co.uk and select a date and time.  You will receive a QR code which you must present at your appointment, along with your passport or employee ID.
