The CAAF strengthens production.

The CAAF reinforces production with a new desalination module at the Gran Tarajal plant

The Fuerteventura Water Supply Consortium (CAAF) continues to carry out the necessary actions to ensure the optimal functioning of the water supply system on the island. As part of these initiatives, on Monday, July 31, the installation of a new desalination module was completed at the Gran Tarajal desalination plant, with a production capacity of 1,000 cubic meters per day.

This step is part of the measures adopted in response to the water emergency declared by the Island Water Council of Fuerteventura (CIAF). The CAAF has acquired this new module through a temporary lease until one is permanently installed.

According to the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, "for this government group our top priority is to carry out all the actions that are essential to guarantee the supply throughout the island. In this case, with one of the most immediate measures that have been defined by the technicians of the CAAF and the CIAF to improve the situation".

For his part, the Minister of Water, Adargoma Hernández, explains that "this measure will allow to increase the production of the center of Gran Tarajal, contributing to alleviate the situation of shortage in the south, at a time also in which the highest levels of consumption of the summer months are reached. "

Lola García and Adargoma Hernández highlight the importance of giving continuity to the other actions that are currently in the process of execution or at an advanced stage of contracting. These measures are essential to improve the water supply situation throughout the island.

No water in the middle of August.

No news of the failed collection pump at the Puerto del Rosario plant

NEWSROOMFUERTEVENTURA

More than half the island is still without water after the last breakdown that occurred last Saturday in the consortium of water supply of Fuerteventura (CAAF).

The seawater catchment pump was sent on Sunday to the repair shop of Gran Canaria, "where this Monday the damage was evaluated and the date of arrangement to bring it to the island as soon as possible," explained Adargoma Hernández, counselor of Aguas del Cabildo, this Tuesday there is no information about it, except that there is no water.

The breakage of the pump is affecting all of Fuerteventura in the month of August since the La Herradura deposit does not receive flow and is the one that supplies all of Fuerteventura, except the tourist areas of Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste or Morro Jable, which have their own supply.

The situation is very complicated in majorero homes and neighbors begin to take for granted that we live on an island doomed to live in precarious in this sense.

Not really looking forward to returning with this ongoing farce. Just paid CAAF 43.64 Euros for two months zero water usage and a connection to a supply that rarely works! The building developments in El Cotillo continue at pace, so the future looks grim for those who already experience issues before they've even been connected.

Actively looking at alternative winter options in other places. Leave the large motor home park to others!

El Cotillo has been ruined by bad planning and lack of infrastructure. Time to move on.

Manuel Miranda reaffirms his commitment to solve the water crisis in Fuerteventura.

Manuel Miranda reaffirms his commitment to solve the water crisis in Fuerteventura. The Minister of Territorial Policy analyzed the evolution of the situation with the president of the Cabildo, Lola García, and the members of the Island Water Council and the Water Supply Consortium to Fuerteventura.

The Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, Manuel Miranda, today reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands with the water emergency that the island of Fuerteventura is experiencing, and assured that his ministry "has the obligation to seek a definitive solution to the water problem in the medium and long term", which in his opinion goes through the planning of new production infrastructures, Storage and distribution in high.

This was stated this morning in Puerto del Rosario, after meeting with the president of the Island Corporation, Lola García, with whom she attended an extraordinary meeting of the Island Water Council and the Water Supply Consortium to Fuerteventura (CAAF).

"What is happening in Fuerteventura with water, or in islands like Lanzarote or La Graciosa, can not be repeated even one more summer," said Manuel Miranda, for whom "all Canarians must have guaranteed the public supply of a basic necessity such as water, regardless of the island or the area of the island in which they live, Those are the differences we need to eliminate if we want to enjoy a truly cohesive territory."

In the case of Fuerteventura, the Minister Manuel Miranda said that the Government of the Canary Islands, "following the guidelines that President Clavijo marked in his investiture speech, has acquired the commitment to solve the water problem in the south of Fuerteventura", and appealed to the need for the insular Hydrological Plan to collect the definitive solutions to the medium and long term of the infrastructure deficit.

Miranda also declared that from now on it will be "a priority" of the General Directorate of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands the processing of all permits and authorizations for the installation of a new desalination plant in the south of the island, "which must be a sustainable installation and linked to renewable energies".

In the opinion of the Minister of Territorial Policy, "in recent years the rope has been tightened too much in the overexploitation of hydraulic infrastructures, both production and storage and distribution, it is clear that there has been a lack of foresight, but it is not the time to regret but to face the problem and give immediate solutions to citizens, because the situation is unsustainable for the population."

On the other hand, the president of the Cabildo majorero, Lola García, said that "it is essential to have the involvement of the Government of the Canary Islands to execute the priority works that guarantee the water supply in Fuerteventura".

In relation to this, the representatives of both administrations agreed to strengthen the support of the Government of the Canary Islands to promote the project of the new desalination plant in the south, which has an estimated investment of around 30 million euros, "is one of the most necessary infrastructures to decentralize production and will allow to improve the situation throughout the island territory, since 85% of the island currently depends on the center of Puerto de Rosario," said Lola García.

Similarly, the head of Water on the island, Adargoma Hernández, expressed his gratitude for the willingness of the Minister of the Government of the Canary Islands to strengthen this collaboration. In addition, Hernández stressed the urgency of carrying out all the works indicated as priorities by the technicians of the CAAF and the Island Water Council, "not only to renew the networks that carry the water supply to the north, center and south of the Island, but also to increase production and storage capacity."

The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has approved today, Friday, August 4, to declare an emergency contract for almost 18.5 million euros of a dozen hydraulic actions that are key to improving the situation throughout the island of Fuerteventura.

According to the president of the Cabildo, Lola García, "this measure will allow us to speed up the execution of some works that have been prioritized as immediate by the technical commission of the Insular Plan of Cooperation in Actions of Guarantee of Water Supply. Some actions that have to be executed as soon as possible".

For his part, the Vice President and Minister of Infrastructure, Blas Acosta, highlights "the need to expedite as much as possible some works that will allow to improve the situation more immediately, while continuing to plan those actions more in the long term".

Likewise, the Minister of Water, Adargoma Hernández, agrees on the need to speed up these actions, "which are aimed at improving not only distribution networks, but also the storage and production of water for human consumption."

With the declaration of its emergency, a series of works are promoted to improve the deposits of La Herradura and expand the power of its pumping station. This will guarantee the necessary volume of water in the header tanks that are distributed throughout the island territory.

The technical commission of PICABAS also determines as urgent, in addition, to immediately renew two modules of the desalination plant of Puerto del Rosario, infrastructure on which 85% of the supply depends throughout Fuerteventura. This remodeling will increase its production by 6,000 cubic meters per day.

It is also a priority to renew the distribution networks. Specifically, it is determined as urgent the improvement of a series of pipes that are key and that will allow to improve the supply in general in the island territory. These are the channeling from the Calderetilla deposit to Tiscamanita, as well as the La Oliva deposit to Tindaya and improving the connection of the Morro Francisco deposit with Lajares.

The Cooperation Plan in Actions to Guarantee the Domestic Water Supply (PICABAS) aims to combine the efforts of the Cabildo, Consortium of Water Supply to Fuerteventura, the Island Water Council and the consortium municipalities. This plan seeks to contribute to reducing the existing deficit in the hydraulic infrastructures that Fuerteventura needs to improve supply.

Works are currently underway to improve the drive of the Puerto del Rosario desalination plant to the main deposits of La Herradura, as well as the expansion and improvement of the Puerto del Rosario and Corralejo plants, as well as remineralization works at the Corralejo and Gran Tarajal plants, among others.

Saturday:

The problem of water supply in Fuerteventura does not cease, and intensifies in August, when the distribution of the water needs of the users mobilized on their holidays begins to blur. In this way the lack of an adequate criterion for storage and the obsolescence of the network leaves the majoreros "sold" in a "hellish" summer on the island.

In this way and in the worst of the heat wave, incidents are reported in La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, La Lajita, Lajares, or El Cotillo. In some areas lack of power in the distribution, in others directly without water.

The deficit majorera network does not cope and without any serious breakdowns have been reported, there is no way to spend a week of tranquility in relation to water distribution by the CAAF. Somehow the problem has become normalized and no one feels ashamed of what is happening.

Sunday:

The breakdown occurred in the early hours of this Sunday at the Puerto del Rosario plant and represents a reduction in the flow that affects in general in Fuerteventura

The Fuerteventura Water Supply Consortium (CAAF) is working to solve a fault produced in the early hours of this Sunday, August 13, in another of the sea catchment pumps of the desalination plant of Puerto del Rosario. An incidence that supposes a loss of production about 5000 cubic meters / per day, which leads to a reduction of flow in the networks that will affect in general in Fuerteventura.

The CAAF is working to resolve the incident and restore the supply normally in the shortest possible time. At the same time, it apologizes to users for the inconvenience caused.
