With you Gramster. We've got nothing against Caleta or aywhere else on the Island. Long may we have the health and wealth to keep returning to our beautiful Island. Only three weeks to go and we will be over Love Cool

Nope, those were they! There's also that grocery outlet up behind IKEA, though we don't usually go up there as it's a bit of a trek.

Much better selection in Caleta than CC, though. The two big shops have a decent amount of stock between them (though the fruit selection in Atlantico is usually dreadful.) i also love the three Dinos + the British Shop in town— means you can grab most things quickly if you have forgotten something during your big weekly shop.

The Dinos are a little pricier, but they are terrific when you run out of butter halfway through breakfast or realise you've no biscuits for the evening. Smile

Do you mean Fran & Chemi?

That's the one! We hope to visit Mercadona today if it ever stops threatening rain (we'll be walking), so I might might pop in if it's open, but we have to trek things back with us so that limits what we can get.

I haven’t used the bus service but I believe between El Mattoral & Caleta it is quite reliable & frequent or a taxi would only be a few euro’s. Nice walk on a good day but not if it’s raining ☔️  Smile

Long walk to the bus stop in the rain, though! Ended up going to Atlantico and will go to Mercadona tomorrow.

Got caught in a rain shower on the trip and ended up having to make a pit-stop for an ice-cream at Barcelo. It's a tough life!  Tongue

We opt for Caleta. I'd say that"s towards the middle rather than north or south.  We have visited other places on the island though and even stayed over in Corrallejo.   we've been coming here a couple of times a year for thirteen years now.  Wow, I didn't realise it had been that long.

We did spend about six weeks the South before settling in Caleta, though. Very nearly bought in Costa Calma! The beaches down there are just beautiful, and we met some lovely people. However, we don't plan on having a car, and it's quite remote and hilly down there with a bus service that's a bit sparse. Options are very limited for non-drivers in terms of groceries— and oddly, we didn't find much in way of restaurants when we were staying in a hotel and had no eat-in option, either. One or two great ones, but that's all. Finally, the internet/TV service down there is just god-awful, which was the final straw! It's beautiful, but it's for hardier and more adventurous souls than us, who love our creature comforts.

In the end, we opted for the convenience of Caleta. I thought it was much louder and busier here than it really is; by and large, we find there's a good balance of life and tranquility here which suits us. It's got a frequent bus service to the airport and the city shopping, which takes less than 20 minutes and costs under €3. There are two decent grocery stores within walking distance, and they deliver. There are also plenty of restaurants to take your guests to when they visit the larger place you're able to afford because property is cheaper here. The beautiful paved coastal path is really easy to walk on compared to the beach, which is messier and left my hips aching! Best of all, there are decent options for internet and television. Tongue

...Finally, though, it's a huge relief to be able to do important things like banking, insurance, and legal business in English. I'm happy to muddle along in my halting Spanish at restaurants and shops where the worst thing that can happen is they bring me the wrong food, but I prefer to feel confident that I am understanding and being understood when serious matters are afoot. When buying overseas in a country where you have a limited grasp of the language, I really appreciate having that little safety net for assistance.

We couldn't be happier with our decision. I'm looking forward to a trip down South next month to see the sights, though I am pleased we can choose to take the longer journey when it suits us rather than having to come up and down constantly to get things in the city!

I’d pretty much echo everything you say here, Ducks! Over the past twenty years or so we have holidayed in most parts of the island, from Corralejo down to Morro Jable, from El Cotillo and La Oliva over to Caleta de Fuste. When we started thinking seriously about a move we rented villas in several locations to get a ‘feel’ for living somewhere, and just fell in love with Caleta, where we were lucky enough to buy our dream place on the Campo de Golf. We’d eyed it a few times from the golf course and our rental places, and by a stroke of good fortune got to hear it was for sale before coming onto the open market!

For us, the proximity to the airport is a real bonus, and as a central base it’s brilliant for exploring the island, which we do a lot of! We like Corralejo, visiting at least once a fortnight, but it doesn’t have that ‘home’ feel for us. Caletas bars and restaurants are superb, not too noisy, all within walking distance, and whilst the shops are not as numerous as Corralejo, PDR is just twenty minutes away with Las Rotundas etc. We play a lot of tennis and padel tennis, and have easy access to great courts, whilst when I get on my bike I can be out on the tracks away from everything in a few minutes!

Apologies for the travelogue, but someone did ask!

It's south, just look at the beaches  Smile

Just returned from our first trip south, stayed in Morro Jable, love Corralejo & the Grande Playas but think the south wins by a nose, I think the more relaxed attitude to nudity on the beach edges it slightly for me.
