Poss 600 year old Tofio found by tourists
#1
Noticias:

They find a Tofio that could be more than 600 years old.

Some tourists from Madrid found the piece and handed it over to the authorities.
According to the southern digital surfm.es, some tourists found in recent days a valuable piece of pre-Hispanic pottery on the island of Fuerteventura. The information suggests that the rains of the last few days could have facilitated the discovery by leaving the piece more visible.

The tourists, diligently, protecting the piece with beach towels moved it to the tourist office of Morro Jable, which upon seeing the ceramics contacted the Archaeological Museum where it is kept waiting for its study and cataloging.

In this sense, sources from the archaeological museum confirm to NoticiasFuertevenura that the piece could be more than 600 years old, in the absence of the pertinent analyzes. In the coming weeks there will be a presentation of the piece together with the two Madrid tourists who acted so diligently to protect the Tofio.

The tofio is a container traditionally used in Fuerteventura to collect milk from the milking of goats. It has pre-Hispanic origin and is strongly linked to the Majorera culture.

Its profile is that of a bowl or vessel of medium or large size, with a wide landfill peak (which gives personality to this piece) and a flat bottom, which served to collect milk from milking. It usually has reddish or brown tones and sometimes comes decorated with grecas and spikes.

That’s great news for the island, and well done those Madrid tourists in recognising the probably of it being a historical artefact.
