Request for waste water to be used for agri in Guisguey
#1
from Noticias:

The socialist group in the Cabildo of Fuerteventura "urges President Sergio Lloret and the counselor responsible for the waters of Fuerteventura to take seriously the use of wastewater on our Island, facilitating from the Island Corporation the resources, infrastructures and access at reasonable prices for the use in its multiple uses, and among these the agricultural, and above all stopping pouring them into the sea when they are so needed".

The socialists affirm that "more than 20,000 cubic meters of wastewater are being discharged into the sea daily due to their inability to use and reuse, and this on an island like ours in which water is one of the most precious goods and where so much good could be done."

"For years, a very interesting circular economy initiative has been paralyzed that would facilitate the use of reclaimed water from the WWTP for agricultural use in the town of Guisguey, a project that was once novel and that is still necessary that would allow the use of these waters for agricultural purposes such as the planting of fodder, so necessary to alleviate the food needs for the cattle of Fuerteventura in these times", they explain in a press release.

The PSC PSOE explains that "it echoes the claims of the residents of Guisguey who urgently await the regenerated water in their gavias, and we urge Lloret, CC and the PP to get down to work and solve once and for all the inconveniences that surround this project, especially when it comes to an experience that could be exemplary, very positive and easily transferable to others in keys of the Island".

In 2012 the Insular Water Council of Fuerteventura began the installation of the network of channeling treated water for agricultural use in the town of Guisguey, an infrastructure that would link with the treatment plant and wastewater treatment plant of Puerto del Rosario. That project cost € 970,000 but to date it has not yet been received by the Island Corporation and the resolution of the contract is still pending.

"This situation is what we urge the Cabildo to reverse, and to the extent that they do, and as long as it is for the good of our Island, we already anticipate that they can count on the support of the socialists to carry it out."

"Likewise, it is also a good time to consider the price of the cubic meter of reclaimed water consumed and study if users could be entitled to some type of subsidy or aid given the novelty of this initiative in Fuerteventura. It will also be essential that an analytical system of this type of water is established before use, and logically the initiative involves a maintenance service of the distribution network as well as repairs and incidents. The Socialists believe that this is a magnificent opportunity to promote this type of green jobs related to the new economy, "concludes the insular PSOE.
