Specialist for mold in the house?
#1
Hi everyone,

Could you advise which specialist to call if we found mold in the house, specifically on the walls behind the baseboard, near the floor? We think that floor near the wall needs to be removed to see if the mold has spread there too.
Would be awesome if you have any references or contact details!
We are in Corralejo.

P.S. Most likely the mold appeared after the leaking pipe issue. We have of course informed our landlord, it took them 3 weeks to send someone who wanted just to fill the crack between the wall and the floor with mold (perhaps with silicone, not sure, maybe with some treatment too), without checking what is under the floor.

Thanks a lot

Definitely needs a good builder to open up the wall, check the cause and neutralise the mould.

As you are not the building owner, you will have to rely on whoever the landlord sends. If he values his property, he will do it properly, if he is just interested in getting your rent, he will do a cheap temporary fix.

That sounds a bit drastic. Before you employ a builder and start opening up walls be aware that damp and mould is quite common in most buildings close to the sea in Fuerteventura. Especially if they are poorly ventilated. Humidity is always high and mould will thrive in these conditions. You will normally find mould behind furniture, headboards and even behind built in wardrobes. Periodically washing the affected walls down with a diluted bleach solution will provide a temporary solution. Varnishing untreated wood will also help. If you can smell mould behind built in wardrobes look for gaps around the frame that will need sealing up.

Thanks! Actually we are located not to the ocean, and in comparison to some other regions Fuerteventura (overall, unless, as you said, it is close to the sea) has pretty dry air, so before we only had some mold in the shower. And this case is most likely due to the water leak.

Unfortunately, the owner does not care about property at all, and he sent his own builder guy, which will do as most comfortable for the owner. Hence we want to call an independent specialist to get his opinion.

So as I understand, we should find a builder.
