06/12/2020 - 21:00h Canary Islands. - THE CALM OF THE PALM VOLCANO AND WAITING FOR THE WINTER SOLSTICE IN TENERIFE. - We have a lime and sand, and it is that the Palma volcano continues slowly stopping and that is noticeable, besides being good news, above all it is noticed in the seismicity that has again descended in magnitude and seismic energy released these last ones months and that after a small pick up or more active process we had in the month of August and part of September.

The curve of seismic released accumulated energies clearly show this, with a tendency to linearity the last few months telling us the system is still at a standstill, thankfully. Now we have to think that the gases will go down and you can go on restoring all life on the island of Palma, with controls and education it's a matter of time that the areas most punished by the gases are reopened to all the population.

The seismicity will follow for a few more months, a couple of years is the most realistic thing I can think of until it reaches levels before the eruption. Of course this is telling that there are no new deep intrusions and reactivations, we'll see what the future of the island offers us.

Tenerife: With Tenerife we have the other side of the coin, and this island is increasingly releasing more seismic energy, more than twice the first six months, especially since the intrusions we had in June and July with seismic swarms s of hundreds of Events and they have provoked undoubtedly a reactivation of the island's volcanic system, which has been warning since October 2016 that something weird is happening and is gaining strength.

That Tenerife will eruption, that no one doubts it in view of what has happened in the Iron and the Palm, what we do not know is when, but will be soon, the system is being reactivated for several years and if it has not broken before, do not know because it has, the palm reactivated in 2017 and has erupted before.

All I can say is that you have to prepare for this event or fact, because we will see how you feel the passage of the winter solstice where the earth passes through its Perigeo (Peri = close) or perihelium, (close to the sun) at its maximum speed.

And why is this important? This is why the strongest gravitational tensions of the year occur where the planet stops falling toward the sun, to start moving away from it. This moment is usually critical in Tenerife, as it usually causes seismicity and swarms with magmatic bodies, especially in recent years.

Although 2019 was when more earthquakes were located, the activity since then is not noticeable, and I would like to see the following video updated (only Events over 1.5 until 2017), very instructive with seismicity since 2000. If all data were counted, another rooster would sing. This is incomplete, but reflects very well where the volcanic system of Tenerife is moving.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu7n35J7yb0&t=62s

No one knows when the next eruption will be, it will be soon, we have already passed the return period, in fact it is not known either how it will be, whether basaltic or explosive or even both, first one and then the other, if in a dorsal or in the central building and if will it be simple or will be multiple like the triple eruption of 1704-1705. One thing is clear, it will warn with a lot of seismicity, with several days, weeks, even months of seismicism felt across the island until the magma opens and comes out. Let's hope Guayota doesn't come out too (explosive eruption) it would be a disaster. Let's hope it stays quiet for a long time.. we'll see. Greetings.

22/12/2020 - 20:00h Canary Islands. -VOLCANIC Earthquake SWARM IN TENERIFE AND PALM QUAKE CONTINUES MOVING SW, TOWARDS THE OCEAN. - A new swarm has occurred in the center of Tenerife, with a first Earthquake, again at relative depth, 24 km of magnitude 1 and followed by a couple of them in a swarm at 5 minutes, which are rising somewhat more of a magnitude n a 1.7 to 14 km under the boiler and in an alignment with the Teide Pico-Viejo building, and another 1.5 to 13 km in the outer area of the boiler towards Adeje. 45 min later another one in the Boiler magnitude 1 in the same boiler area 13 km as 1.7 .

The most interesting thing is that you see the sign of these two earthquakes, the first of them of 1.5 magnitude is a typically volcanic movement, a "screw", while the second 1.7 however is of tectonic type, therefore we have had a volcanotectonic book couple. These types of earthquakes are known to be typical when the reactivation of volcanic systems occurs.

If it were little these Events are configured in a Mercedes star layout at 120o, which is a scheme of ascending efforts or magma pressure upwards, which added to that also you see about 20 more earthquakes, which are smaller, who have not been localized and marked only in the lower area of the spectrum, which could indicate a possible pressurization of the magmatic chamber depth.

These small earthquakes are occurring safely on the other side of the camera where the CCAN sensor is located so the waves have to penetrate the liquid part of it and cut off part of the seismic waves, especially the S, only the P's arrive.

The truth is that more outdoor seismographs are needed for the study of these Events.

The curve of the seismic energy released accumulated in Tenerife tends to rise and although it does not yet come back in a way that can indicate something, what if true is that it comes back stronger every time since the swarms of June and July, especially this s past couple of weeks.
As for the Palma, it follows the process of movement of the magma from summit old towards the SW at 10-11 km, slower that if before, but it follows below Naos ports towards the Atlantic Ocean, nothing new, while it continues to stop.

Happy Holidays (Enrique)

EDITED: Today I repeat Tenerife, we have a new swarm and they have located a few more, which they will review... the winter solstice gets to you, there's no doubt about it... (Enrique)

Things are getting better, more seismicity, the swarm of Tenerife is starting to tighten... and they've located some already... (Enrique)

Tonight I felt a tremor in Arafo a little before 9:30.. and a few minutes later; another milder.

Thank you so much Enrique for keeping us informed so clearly.
What you say will happen sooner or later, it's pointing out ways.

Enrique, here of me, it's hours and hours that it's like being on the boat

José David
And it couldn't be Tenerife a magmatic cooling process (the magma ran out of strength to climb and stayed ay) as it's happening now in La Palma...

José David I wish it were like this, but it turns out that since 2016, it has been non-stop, every time it has more activity and more swarms, it reactivates, instead of otherwise, at least according to the curve of the seismic energy released accumulated. (Enrique).

That's right, Statistics say only 10% of intruders erupt, and we're already past that number.... well if since 2004 you now count in addition the intrusions that we carry from October 2016, October 2017, November 2018, November 2019, June 2020, December 2020, June 2021, December 2021, June 2022 and July 2022, November 2022.... and now he wants to start another one..
The more magma enters under the island, the more it will come out or the bigger it will be, the truth is that it's not very reassuring, no. (Enrique)
