Stopped the operation of the wind farm of Puerto del Rosario by order of the General Directorate of Nature Protection.
In a statement issued in the afternoon today the Cabildo of Fuerteventura indicates that the operation of the Puerto del Rosario Wind Farm has been stopped cautiously by order of the General Directorate of Nature Protection.
In the aforementioned note it is reported that the body of agents of the Environment has drawn up a record before the discovery of two rugged specimens of guirre on March 11 and 18 in the wind farm of Puerto del Rosario. Reports of the agents have made possible the precautionary stoppage of the operation of the mills object of the collision, as reflected in the environmental impact assessment statement of the park , which specifies their detention in the event of damage to endangered fauna or vulnerable species.
The institution recalls that specifically, condition number 8 of this environmental impact statement orders that, in the case of detecting bird collisions on the infrastructures of the wind farm that are classified as endangered or vulnerable, the wind turbines identified as collision points will be stopped until the corrective and preventive measures are reviewed or new ones are proposed.
The paralysis is ordered by the General Directorate of Nature Protection, responsible for contacting the company to notify it as a result of the reports transferred by the Island Corporation. It will remain paralyzed until the impact is assessed and the aforementioned compensatory measures are upheld.
From the Ministry of Environmental Sustainability, directed by Lola García, it is reported that this monitoring of the Puerto del Rosario wind farm is not new, but has been carried out since its execution works.
For the Minister of Environmental Sustainability, Lola García, "it is important to have the ordinances for the implementation of renewables elaborated and a series of criteria are applied before placing these facilities. Parks must be installed with prior planning."
