Wind Turbines - Puerto del Rosario
#11
from Radio Sintonia:

Stopped the operation of the wind farm of Puerto del Rosario by order of the General Directorate of Nature Protection.

In a statement issued in the afternoon today the Cabildo of Fuerteventura indicates that the operation of the Puerto del Rosario Wind Farm has been stopped cautiously by order of the General Directorate of Nature Protection.

In the aforementioned note it is reported that the body of agents of the Environment has drawn up a record before the discovery of two rugged specimens of guirre on March 11 and 18 in the wind farm of Puerto del Rosario. Reports of the agents have made possible the precautionary stoppage of the operation of the mills object of the collision, as reflected in the environmental impact assessment statement of the park , which specifies their detention in the event of damage to endangered fauna or vulnerable species.

The institution recalls that specifically, condition number 8 of this environmental impact statement orders that, in the case of detecting bird collisions on the infrastructures of the wind farm that are classified as endangered or vulnerable, the wind turbines identified as collision points will be stopped until the corrective and preventive measures are reviewed or new ones are proposed.

The paralysis is ordered by the General Directorate of Nature Protection, responsible for contacting the company to notify it as a result of the reports transferred by the Island Corporation. It will remain paralyzed until the impact is assessed and the aforementioned compensatory measures are upheld.

From the Ministry of Environmental Sustainability, directed by Lola García, it is reported that this monitoring of the Puerto del Rosario wind farm is not new, but has been carried out since its execution works.
For the Minister of Environmental Sustainability, Lola García, "it is important to have the ordinances for the implementation of renewables elaborated and a series of criteria are applied before placing these facilities. Parks must be installed with prior planning."

Canarias 7:

Naturgy resumes activity in six of the eight mills after hiring surveillance.

The company had paralyzed the entire Puerto del Rosario wind farm due to the death of two guirres in March. In the Alisio park, in El Cardón, the same compensatory measure is also used after colliding two other specimens in 2020 and 2021.

Almost two months after that two guirres died when colliding with the wind turbines of the Puerto del Rosario wind farm, Naturgy it has reactivated six of the eight mills. The company has hired bird surveillance technicians with a device with the possibility of stopping the wind turbines in case of a possible collision.

The resumption of the activity took place last Friday, May 6, although the wind turbines numbers 1 and 7 of the wind farm remain stopped, which were against which the two specimens of the endemic subspecies of Fuerteventura that is in danger of extinction collided.

The first guirre, a male, died on March 11, paralyzing the mill he crashed into. A few days later, on March 18, the second guirre, a breeding female from the nearby territory of the mountain of El Aceitunal, between Tetir and La Matilla, collided and the company decided on its own initiative to stop the installation. as a whole.

Although Puerto del Rosario is a single wind farm, the eight mills are distributed among the surroundings of the Technology Park, El Time and the Vega Nueva in La Matilla. The Environmental Impact Statement of this facility established that, in the event that bird collisions were detected on the wind farm infrastructures that are listed as endangered or vulnerable in the Canary Islands Catalogue of Protected Species, the company had to paralyze the equipment in question and apply countervailing measures.

Same surveillance in the Alisio park, in El Cardón.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands was informed of the resumption of activity after the implementation of the aforementioned compensatory measures in six of the eight mills. For the other two, against whom the guirres collided, the resumption procedure is slower, according to sources from the company itself.

The same surveillance measure at the foot of the wind turbine started the Alisio wind farm, in El Cardón, in the municipality of Tuineje, long before Puerto del Rosario. Two guirres fell on the five wind turbines of the Alisio in 2020 and 2021. Sistemas Energéticos Fuerteventura SA also chose to stop the entire park, the last time from November 2021 to the beginning of March this year.

I wonder what they can come up with for stopping the collision of birds onto the turbines, roundabouts? Confused  I hope they can find a right durable solution, as green energy IMHO is the best way forward.
