A person was investigated for mistreating a cat colony in Fuerteventura.

The SEPRONA of Fuerteventura investigated, on May 20, a 28-year-old person, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse, for shooting with a 6.35 caliber pellet shotgun at a colony of cats, causing the death of some of them and others leaving them badly injured, in the municipality of Antigua.
The investigation began on May 7, 2024, when the Fuerteventura Nature Protection Service became aware, through a citizen complaint, that a colony of felines in the town of Antigua (Las Palmas), is being hunted by an individual who shoots them with a weapon.
Weapon seized.
So far, eight corpses from the same colony have been found, as well as other injured specimens that have had to be urgently operated on by a veterinary clinic, where once the corresponding radiographic examinations were carried out, the reports determined that they had several 6.35 caliber projectiles (buckshot) inside their bodies.
As a result of the investigation, the SEPRONA of Fuerteventura and thanks to the collaboration of citizens, a person has been brought to justice as the alleged perpetrator of a criminal offence provided for in title XVI bis of the Penal Code -crimes against animals-, also and as a precautionary measure, a 6.35 caliber air rifle has been seized. because there are indications that may be related to the facts.
