True that Perry. The same is happening around the whole island, not just in Caleta. Unfortunately, all the half done projects are owned by the banks, selling the part build structures for a pre-2008 prices. For the builder it's often cheaper to buy an empty land, get the permission sorted and build completely new building. Getting a mortgage (possibly) from the same bank.
It wouldn’t take much for the canary government to place a moratorium on all complex/area development planning & put pressure on the Spanish government & then the banks to release these for finishing before any more developments are permitted.

I was only talking about planning consent for big developments Sam. Single house builds should still get planning.
My point was that there are hundreds if not thousands of unfinished properties across the island & the banks will not release at a sellable valuation because it is better for them to keep the unnaturally inflated price on their books as an asset, the fact they could/would never achieve this value in actual sales is irrelevant. They need to be forced into releasing these at “actual” value & preferably to individuals not developers, similar to what was done in Ireland a few years ago with NAMA (??). Ordinary people were able to get on the property ladder & get a home for a few thousand euros. In addition, it removed eyesores from the environment. If anything prices should decrease, not increase due to the extra volume of property available.

Wouldn't this be driving the prices up way too fast? Good for the environment (less damage) but not so good for Cabildo seeing the investors going elsewhere due to the price hike.

There was something similar happening on the mainland where the Spanish government pushed the banks to release percentage of their (domestic) portfolio and sell for much lower price to get the market moving. Worked fine and kept the electorate happy but not sure who had to cover the loss.
The loss has already been paid up by Joe Soap (the tax payer) when the banks were bailed out !!

I contacted Gustavo Berriel via facebook. He replied with the two links below.
They are all in Spanish and there is a lot of information. I can't find anything
that directly shows a plan but it maybe buried in there somewhere. I also don't
read Spanish so someone on here may find it easier to look through. The 2nd link
seems to have a few plans on it, but as yet I haven't managed to find anything.
Also my PC is slower than an asthmatic tortoise at the moment which isn't helping

What are the chances of this being built in the next two years? Five? Ten?
Anyone want to take a guess? We had family over for Christmas and they were very surprised at the huge gap between the Eurostars and the Sheraton; couldn't believe it hadn't been built on. I said," Someday!"
Is there really a need for another huge development like this in this town, or is it a "If you built it, they will come" type scenario?

Those are very good questions Ducks. I feel it is inevitable that it will be built on someday. What would all of you prefer to see. More housing development, more commercial outlets or a hotel complex?

I am sure { perhaps Captain sensible will remember } that this was muted before about 2/3 years ago, along with plans to develop the unfinished monstrosity on the top of the mountain int a 4/5* Hotel, the reasoning then was more capacity was needed for tourism, I think that is hardly the case at present, it will disappear into the land of dreams along with a bridge/tunnel to Lanzarote, and the ferry to Morroco
