Germany has started testing populations one of which showed around a15% infection rate in the sample, very similar to one of the cruise ships where the whole ship was tested leading to a suggestion that some people may simply not contract the virus. So much is unknown but a population wide infection rate of at least 15% would make more sense than the published numbers and enough to stop exponential growth and in some areas stop the spread.
Where i live in Norfolk we have around 500 official cases with a population of near on 1m people not dissimilar to Fuerteventura in percentage terms. Plenty of people in Norfolk as in other places come into  contact with maybe only a handful of people each and every day so the spread stops. The issue was always the large gatherings but our govt here were slow to stop them even going as far as saying they were not a large source of transmission. My belief is it ripped through the schools (think of how all children bring a cold home) and therefore the parents etc etc. 15% infection rate could well be low in some places.

Today's growth chart, Spain back in the 3% field for the first time in four days along with Italy. UK has risen to 8% unfortunately. As before, the full spreadsheets can be found here. (Live link)

I thought I'd pop this in as well this evening which shows a snapshot of Spain's daily growth since the start. Worthy of note is how erratic things were during March followed by a relatively consistent downward trend since the beginning of April. I'm just hoping that the pending relaxation of movement doesn't have an adverse effect on what we've seen over the last 10 days. The day to day snapshot will quickly identify any dramatic change. I may post this for the next few days so that we on this board can monitor simply. Unless of course people would rather I didn't. Please comment.

5051 reported on Worldometer 10th April and 634 deaths so less on 11th not more? Spain seems to release numbers early then update them. Daily numbers should be treated with caution. For instance a couple of days back the UK included what they call pillar 2 cases, this made our daily numbers seem horrific but they included key workers and families accumulated over a number of days.

The important thing is to do the posting at the same time each day. I explained up page that numbers were added to as the day progressed. If you look at the very bottom of Worldometers Spain page you will see each primary released figure since inception. Today's is 4754. Well, that is what they reported. Whether that is true or not is anyone's guess. It's possible to find half a dozen conflicting numbers from numerous sources on a daily basis. Frankly, I doubt that any of them are 100% accurate.

There are so many anomalies in the way that the Spanish Health Ministry count the numbers of those infected and those that have sadly died, that I wonder if these charts are worthwhile. There are various sources of information, the two which I look at are the WHO, whose figures are used for the charts that I post, and Worldometers. They are very contradictory. I wonder if either are credible.

The Spanish Health Ministry quite openly says that they believe that 15 of every 16 of those infected remain undetected. Based upon that assumption, which is not mine, it's the governments, the true infection figure could be in excess of 2 million.

Today's growth sheet is still showing Spain along with Italy in the 3% bracket though the actual figures released to the WHO indicate a rise of 254. The UK sadly has jumped to 12%. As previously, the full spreadsheets can be found here.

To give a little context as to the numbers reported, this chart from the last couple of weeks doesn't have one single number which tallies with that of Worldometers. These numbers as collated by the WHO tend to be higher in general

And today's snapshot.

The UK issue data each day after the daily briefings which are the official numbers and the only ones to follow if interested in UK numbers.
