Exchange from UK to Spanish driving licence
#41
Picked up my spanish driving licence today,Valid for 5 years motorcycle trailers etc all included.
As stated previously just showed my temp licence to the security guard who placed me in a queue of 3.
Total time to obtain licence 5 weeks.
English guy in front of us was not so lucky,he had been waiting 3 months with no success. On this occasion. told that something was wrong with his photo. He submitted another photo and was given another temp licence and told to come back in a few weeks.

Having sorted out mine and my wife’s Spanish licences, and helping a few friends to get theirs, I’ve been asked to help someone again. However, just looking at the DGT website to refresh my memory, I find that ‘Reino Unido’ has disappeared as an option in both European and non-European categories! I don’t believe we have yet brexited, but someone clearly does! Am I missing something, or has anyone found a way around this?

Reino Unido was there last night but it's not there now.

Well, things are getting serious, it seems! The ‘Reino Unido’ option has been removed from the normal licence exchange process as of today. Spain has used a Royal Decree from early March to enact a new process. As of 1 November 2019, if the UK does indeed actually leave the EU on 31 October, a UK-issued driving licence issued to anyone holding Spanish residencia, or who SHOULD hold residencia (here longer than 6 months), will become immediately invalid for driving in Spain!

Until 31 October a new temporary process has been put in place, allowing people who wish/need to exchange to register their request with Tráfico by that date. If Brexit takes place, those registered can make the usual appointments and complete the exchange. If it does not, back to ‘as you were’!

I believe I have got this right, stretching my Spanish a bit, but I’m sure anyone will add to or amend if I have mis-read any of this.....interesting times, indeed!

If I have read the last post correctly there is a conflict with the rule that you need residencia (a green card) if you are here for more than 90 days in a rolling 12 months or is gattaca66 referring to a fiscal resident who is here for more than 183 days in a rolling 12 months?

Afternoon people

Two questions, I have passed the medical and have an appointment with Traffico at the end of November, I was chatting to a neigbour last night who has been here for 12 years+, and has never changed his licence, and is not going to when he was back in the UK in August he got himself and his wife IPP,s, and intends to use them post Brexit, now come next April I will have held a full UK licence for 56 years and am more than a little loath to give it up and am thinking along the same lines. Thoughts or observations, please
Secondly, someone posted Trafico,s website where you can make appointments online, I think it was Tamara, but I cannot find it and need to change the address of my car so can someone point me in the right direction?

Forgive me if I’m repeating previous info, but from a quick look I don’t think so....just want to share latest info. The ‘Reino Unido’ option was removed from the system for exchanging licences a couple of weeks ago, because of the threat of a no-deal Brexit and the subsequent possibility that the relationship with the DVLA for checks would be compromised. Spain instead set up a special protocol for UK licence holder wishing to exchange. They fill in an online form and present it, together with docs, at Tráfico to be placed on a register. All of those on that register would then be able to go forward with their exchange under the existing terms. The deadline for registering was 31 October 2019. With the new extension to Brexit, DGT/Tráfico have announced a corresponding extension of the deadline for registration to 31 January. Details of the special protocol available on the DGT website. Currently, this is the only avenue open to UK licence holders. Of course, if we leave with a deal it will probably change.....maybe!

Sorry, for clarity, by ‘online form’ I mean the form can be found online, printed off, and taken to Tráfico once completed. Online submission may be possible with digital keys etc, but hard copy may be more accessible to most!
