You could park in Esquinzo near the Safari bar, then take the public footpath down the side of the Marina Playa hotel to the beach. It’s about a 10min walk south to the sunbed area. There is also a clif top path from the side of the Robinson that has some great views, which will bring you out at the beach bar.  Tried to post photos with no luck. 

If you are hiring a car, a good day out is the West Coast mountain route. Lots of view points and a swim  in the El Cotillo lagoons with the fish at the end of it. Return via the much faster east coast FV1 motorway.

Cofete beach on the Jandia peninsula is a bucket list trip, good Weather only & don’t swim or crash / damage the car.  For swimming, Playa Juan Gomez on the east of the peninsular is good. Same rule about the car An day dont fall down the cliff. It really hurts and gets the Mrs all screamy

You can drive down to the beach from there!  Opposite the Safari there's a rough-ground car park, drive through that, follow the road to the left and it takes you down to a car park next to the beach (you can see the cars on Google).

I do like wide expansive beaches though, we will be there mid September

We will have a car & do plan to head up the coast to some of the other beaches, any tips or recommendation appreciated

You simply must visit the Sotavento Beach!  It's a long, wide expanse of soft sand.  No facilities other than a few rock shelters.  Lovely gentle slope into the water.  Predominantly naturist.

Look on Google Maps.  Leave the FV-2 at junction 77.  Take the FV-602 northwards from the big roundabout, follow the road past the petrol station, then it goes under the FV-2 and about 500m further on there's a viewpoint area (with a camera sign).  Turn off there, follow the rough road down to the beach where there's a big car park.

Sotovento is definitely on the list, from images online it seems very impressive, slightly worried about the wind but hoping September will be not too bad, I do like the apparent vastness & isolation of it all, the drive to Cofete gives me the hebegebees
