The collection pump of the desalination plant arrives this afternoon at 16:00 p.m. on the island.

The new rupture of one of the pumps that captures seawater that will later be desalinated at the Puerto del Rosario plant has once again put the Fuerteventura water system in check. It happens that it is the second time that this breakdown occurs in the last month.

Sources consulted in the Island Council affirm that the broken piece of the bomb will arrive this afternoon, it is expected that around 16:00 p.m. it will be on the island for installation.

The loss of flow that occurs due to the lack of this pump should cause loss of flow throughout the island, due to the height of the storage levels in the different tanks.

It is expected that throughout the day there will be a lot of stress in the system and there will be loss of supply until the start-up of the pump and the recovery of the levels.

The Cabildo begins urgent contracting of hydraulic works worth 18.5 million euros.

The Cabildo initiates urgent contracting of hydraulic works worth 18.5 million euros. These hydraulic works were declared an emergency by the technical commission of the Insular Plan for Cooperation in Water Supply Guarantee Actions (PICABAS), due to their immediate importance.

To date, the Infrastructure area has already formalized the contracting of six of these interventions, and it is expected that the rest will be contracted in the coming days. These works, focused on ensuring water supply, respond to the priority needs identified by PICABAS and seek to strengthen the island's hydraulic infrastructure to face present and future challenges in relation to water supply.

The focus on contracting these works urgently reflects the commitment of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for its inhabitants. The planning and execution of these actions will contribute significantly to improving the resilience of the island to possible situations of scarcity and to strengthening its hydraulic infrastructure in a comprehensive manner.

The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, points out that "the actions marked as immediate are already beginning to be contracted, with the aim of starting to be executed in the shortest possible time in order to improve the supply in the north, center and south of Fuerteventura "

For his part, the Minister of Infrastructure, Blas Acosta, points out that "its emergency was declared by the Cabildo this August and the first of these priority works have already begun to be contracted to continue renewing the networks, increase production and storage capacity throughout the island territory. "

The Minister of Water, Adargoma Hernández, provides details on the set of ten hydraulic interventions considered emergency. These works include the renovation of distribution networks at strategic points to achieve improvements throughout the island territory. Specifically, the improvement of several crucial pipelines has been identified as a priority, which will contribute to the overall advancement of supply throughout the island.

Among the urgent interventions, the pipeline from the Calderetilla deposit to Tiscamanita stands out, along with the improved link between the La Oliva deposit and Tindaya. In addition, the optimization of the connection of the Morro Francisco deposit with Lajares will be addressed.

Likewise, the modernization of the modules in the Puerto del Rosario plant is contemplated, on which 85% of the total supply in Fuerteventura depends. This initiative seeks to increase production throughout the island and expand storage capacity in the main reservoirs, which supply the head tanks that distribute water in all municipalities. These measures reflect the Cabildo's commitment to improving water infrastructure and ensuring a reliable and efficient supply throughout the island.

Contracted hydraulic works declared of emergency to start them in September.

Contracted hydraulic works declared of emergency to begin them in September. The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has contracted all the hydraulic works that were declared of emergency for immediate execution with the aim of reversing the situation of water shortages on the island.

"Some actions that amount to almost 18.5 million euros and that must begin to be executed this September," said the president of the Cabildo, Lola García, in a meeting with the media.

According to Lola García "we are aware of the enormous difficulties that the population of Fuerteventura is going through. For this reason, as a government group we have worked from the outset to give speed and urgency to the actions that have been determined as immediate by the technical commission of PICABAS."

"In less than two months they are already contracted and we must thank the work of the technicians who have worked immediately so that the works can begin as soon as possible," he added. The president also explained that one of the criteria for the award of the works has been the reduction of the execution period, given the urgency and seriousness of the situation.

The Vice President and Minister of Infrastructure, Blas Acosta, stressed that "the speed with which the emergency works have been contracted demonstrates the commitment of this government group to improve the situation of lack of water."

"We have put all the economic resources to carry out the planning and to be able to have in the short term greater guarantee of production, storage and distribution. From the Ministry of Infrastructure, all the necessary resources will be invested to expedite all the actions of the Insular Plan of Cooperation in Actions of Guarantee of Water Supply (PICABAS)", added Blas Acosta.

Simultaneously, production has experienced a significant increase thanks to the lease acquisition of a portable module in Gran Tarajal and the increase in the purchase of surpluses in La Lajita. These changes translate into an additional capacity of 2,000 cubic meters per day. These measures will play a crucial role in mitigating the current situation until the planned emergency actions are carried out.

For his part, the Minister of Water, Adargoma Hernández, explained that "from the first minute when we took office, our first meeting as a government group was at the CAAF facilities to coordinate the different issues. Likewise, we incorporated surpluses to the CAAF budget for more than 10 million euros and we have covered positions in different services to continue working on different procedures in human resources".

For Hernández, "it is also important to carry out maintenance tasks in the production modules and we have done so, and we must continue working to reduce the percentage of non-registered water, both leakage and in the meters themselves."

In addition, work has been done to speed up a fundamental work in execution such as the impulsion to the deposits of La Herradura and work continues on others such as the expansion and improvement of the desalination plants of Puerto del Rosario and Corralejo.

In an investment valued at approximately 18.5 million euros, the hydraulic works declared of emergency have been contracted with the financial support of the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). The main objective of these measures is to expand production through the modernization of two modules at the Puerto del Rosario desalination plant. This will result in an increase in production by 6,000 cubic meters per day. Additionally, a new seawater catchment well will be drilled at the same facility.

In order to strengthen storage, improvements will be implemented in the main deposits of La Herradura, in addition to an expansion in the capacity of its pumping station. This series of improvements will ensure the availability of the necessary volume of water in the central reservoirs that supply the entire island territory.

In order to optimize distribution, the urgent need to improve a series of strategic pipelines has been identified. These improvements will be critical to the overall improvement of the water supply across the island. The improvement in the channeling that extends from the Calderetilla deposit to Tiscamanita is contemplated, as well as the connection between the La Oliva deposit and Tindaya. Additionally, improvements will be implemented in the connection between the Morro Francisco deposit and Lajares.

The water emergency in Fuerteventura is extended for a period of one year.

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has extended the water emergency situation due to the serious decrease in available flows that endanger the water supply on the island. This was approved this Wednesday, September 20, by the Board of the Island Water Council in extraordinary session.

Likewise, "other priority actions must be completed, such as the pipeline from the Puerto del Rosario plant to the main deposits of La Herradura". All of them actions aimed at improving the production, distribution and storage of water in Fuerteventura.

Digitalization of the water cycle

Likewise, the Island Water Council has approved signing an agreement with the Autonomous Community to improve the knowledge and use of water resources, moving towards the digital transition in the water sector. The project is called ''PERTE of Digitalization of the Water Cycle, Objective A' and is subscribed with the Ministry of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, with European funds Next Generation, within the State Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
