For alleged crimes against workers' rights, Social Security fraud and human trafficking
The National Police has arrested two businessmen in the agricultural and livestock sector in Fuerteventura, accused of repeatedly employing immigrant workers without a work permit on their farms, also violating labour regulations.
According to a statement, the Police explains that, together with the Labour Inspectorate, it has carried out inspections in seven livestock, agricultural and commercial farms in Fuerteventura to investigate possible crimes related to the violation of labour rights, Social Security fraud and human trafficking.
The operation was carried out between October 7 and 13, managing to identify 24 people, "including both managers and workers," according to the Superior Headquarters of the Canary Islands.
In addition to facing accusations of violation of workers' rights, the two detainees now have a file opened by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, due to irregularities in the hiring of foreign workers without a work permit. A fine of 57,000 euros is proposed for these companies.
