I thought I saw a proposal for a waterpark in these plans. In my opinion that would be a great benefit to Caleta, if it was to happen. Although a lot of us would agree that the island is great as it is, I am sure, looking purely at the tourism perspective there are room for improvements

Can't see the owners of the Sheraton wanting that next door! Their prices are absolutely wild— we had family come for Christmas, and half-board for two weeks in the Barcelo was less than the price of a week with B&B there. I imagine their clientele would not want a loud park full of "common folk" overlooking their peaceful and pricey haven.

IMO, another development with a mix of shops, hotel, and maybe long-term accommodation would be best. Something like the Eurostars, but with apartments also? Ridiculous to think of it, though, considering the unfinished buildings at the top of the hill and the huge half-built hotel in the middle of town across from the British shop/Costa Caleta. Absolute madness to develop further while these sit deteriorating... And that's before getting into the water park falling apart out in New Horizons!

I think if they developed the water park in Nuevo Horizonte could really help the place.

That's the same plot Emmi. It looks like investors are gone since the beginning of the pandemic.

Is anyone surprised with the asking price at nearly €100 an acre for what is basically scrubland?

Antigua achieves the Final Approval of the II Modernization Plan of Caleta de Fuste.

The II PMMT allows the millionaire investment of tourism companies to improve and modernize their facilities and the City of Antigua restructures for public benefit more than 40,000 square meters of land, increases by more than 36 million euros the municipal heritage value and obtains the approximate income of initial licenses valued at 4 million euros.

Mayor Matías Peña García announces the confirmation, transferred by the Governing Council of the Canary Islands meeting this Thursday, June 30 in the morning, of the Final Approval of the II Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of the Tourist Competitiveness of Caleta de Fuste. An important objective obtained thanks to the work, dedication and involvement of the technical and legal team of the City of Antigua with special mention to the Secretary and Chief Municipal Architect, as well as the drafting team of Gesplan and the collaboration of the Deputy Minister of Economy, Blas Acosta who together with the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Angel Víctor Torres, comply with the commitment acquired to promote the final approval of the II PMMT of Caleta de Fuste.

The final approval of the II PMMT of Caleta de Fuste is the result of three years of priority work in the City of Antigua, says the municipal councilor, resolving procedures and irregular situations accumulated since 1976, as well as closing and signing the agreements that are included with the companies and promoters of important investment and modernization projects in the tourist town.

The approval of the II PMMT involves restructuring for the benefit of use and public service more than 40,000 square meters, increasing by more than 36 million euros the municipal heritage value, and the initial approximate income in the City of Antigua for licenses valued at 4 million euros. A new period of responding to the numerous possibilities, procedures and licenses in relation to this II PMMT of Caleta de Fuste is now open, details the municipal councilor, so we have hired a specialized technician who will be dedicated full-time to resolve and expedite the application of the Plan, favoring the investment and modernization planned, and adds Matías Peña, thus preventing the Technical Office from losing agility in many other projects and procedures in which we are working.

I hope that this is not all new developments as in my personal opinion pressure should be put on both the local council & owners of developments to upgrade and refurbish a lot of the current run-down developments & areas and deal with public infrastructure such as roads, cycleways, pavements & lighting.  A lot has been done in recent years but more is needed.

And drainage! Hate walking around Caleta and smelling the drains in certain places.
