Radio Sintonia:

The works in the water impulsion network from Puerto del Rosario to La Herradura will be completed next April

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and responsible for the Insular Area of Infrastructures, Sergio Lloret López, has visited today, Thursday, June 16, the beginning of the works of channeling the impulsion of drinking water that started last Monday in the Production Center of Puerto del Rosario (EDAM Puerto del Rosario) towards the regulatory deposits of La Herradura. An intervention "of vital importance to guarantee the supply of drinking water to the island," as the president said during his visit, in light of "the increasingly frequent and considerable breakdowns of the existing impulsion pipes and that have been occurring due to the poor state in which they were," he said.

The visit was also attended by the first vice president, Lola García, the Minister of Waters, David de Vera, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, the manager of the CAAF, Gonzalo Báez, representatives of the Pérez Moreno-CRISPAL Joint Venture, Luis Moreno and Pablo de León, among other technical staff.
This action, whose first draft is from 2013, was awarded last May for an amount of just over 3 million euros and is included in the 'Island Cooperation Plan to guarantee home water supply Isla de Fuerteventura' (PICABAS 2020-2025) of the Ministry of Infrastructures of the Island Council. The pipe has a length of 4,686m.
For the president, Sergio Lloret "This is the fundamental artery of drinking water supply to Fuerteventura, it is framed within the PICABA, it is a priority action within this Hydraulic Plan, which has had many problems in its processing, but in this legislature we have managed to unlock the administrative authorization of the project".
For the Minister of Water, David de Vera, "today begins a priority work for Fuerteventura, since one of the main objectives of the Government group is fulfilled thanks to the cooperation of the Cabildo and the CAAF, which collaborate to find a way to regularly supply the island with this new project. We work little by little to standardize the water supply and quality to all users."
In the words of the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, "due to the obsolescence of the conduction pipes of this tank, which are from the year 92 and 99, that is, from the last century, this action, whose investment is considerable, which has been proposed to be carried out in La Herradura, in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario, and whose area of influence affects several municipalities, is quite successful and necessary. With all this, once the driving infrastructures are adapted, thousands of people on our island will benefit from these works, so that all the breakdowns that have been warned in recent times, and that have the reason for being in the obsolescence referred to of the materials, no longer take place and we can have quality infrastructures as our population deserves and that are in accordance with the times we live in."
The project, considered of public utility as it is an essential strategic action to guarantee the supply of drinking water to the entire island of Fuerteventura, will consist of the expansion of the hydraulic infrastructure that connects the EDAM of Puerto del Rosario and the deposits of La Herradura with a new pipeline that will solve the supply problems which, due to the breakdowns suffered by the existing pipes, have been occurring in recent times.
The difficulties that the Fuerteventura Water Supply Consortium (CAAF) has had to face to guarantee the supply to the entire island, aggravated by the continuous breakdowns suffered by the two impulsion pipes of the EDAM of Puerto del Rosario to the regulatory deposits of La Herradura, which already meant the necessary paralysis of the service for its repair between November 7 and 11 of last year, make this intervention an "urgent need" that has justified the urgency of its processing, in order to avoid the risk of shortages of drinking water for the population of the island.
With an execution period of 8 months, President Sergio Lloret and the Island Corporation are confident that the new pipeline will be completed and operational before April of next year 2023.

New rupture of the general impulsion network from Puerto del Rosario to La Herradura.

The Water Supply Consortium announces that it has activated, immediately, the protocol of action before a new rupture of the general impulsion network that leads from the EDAM of Puerto del Rosario to the main deposits of La Herradura. This breakage is caused by the fragility of the pipe materials due to their obsolescence.

During the repair work, some water supply cuts will be caused in Fuerteventura, as it is the main impulsion line to the central deposits.

The CAAF apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the incident, asking users to check their facilities and check the proper functioning of the storage tanks.
From the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the CAAF it is recalled that the works have already begun to install a new drive towards La Herradura. An intervention considered a priority due to the poor state in which the pipes are located and in order to guarantee the supply of drinking water on the Island on a regular basis.

" Obsolescence " lovely word that, surely their purpose in life, is to ensure fairly important things like the infrastructure of the water supply does not become obsolescent?

Repaired the break produced in the general impulsion network of Puerto del Rosario.

The Water Supply Consortium (CAAF) completed last night the repair of the breakage caused in the general impulsion network that leads from the EDAM of Puerto del Rosario to the main deposits of La Herradura. The CAAF acted urgently and continuously until the breakdown was repaired, which occurred due to the obsolescence of the pipe materials.

After its repair, twelve hours of drying are needed for its chemical welding, so it is expected that around noon today the impulsion will begin again, progressively increasing the flow rate and gradually restoring the supply normally in those areas where there have been cuts. The CAAF apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

Why is this even news? it is what they are obliged to do surely, other than not let pipe materials become obsolescent!

Renovation works in the Corralejo desalination plant for an amount of 241,873.35 euros.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the area of Works and Infrastructures directed by the island president, Sergio Lloret López, puts out to tender the works to improve the Transformation Center of the Corralejo desalination plant for an amount of 241,873.35 euros. The project aims to improve the energy management of the EDAM, optimizing the electricity supply necessary for the production of drinking water supply to the area.

Interested entities have until August 3 to submit their applications electronically through the Cabildo's bidding portal.

This project is included in the Insular Cooperation Plan for the Supply of Drinking Water (PICABAS) for the period 2020-2025 with which the Cabildo de Fuerteventura seeks to renew and update the entire hydraulic system of drinking water supply on the island.

In this case, the actions include the installation of elements that allow improving the control of the electricity consumption of the Corralejo EDAM. In addition, the transformers and all the cells are replaced, which present a certain state of deterioration due to corrosion due to the marine environment in which they are located, by others with more resistant materials. In this way, possible failures in the electricity supply necessary for the production of water are prevented.

Likewise, the distribution of the Transformation Center is improved, including physical separation between the area for users and the area of the transformers.

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret López, has pointed out that "from the island corporation we work to improve and update all the systems and supply network on which the water supply to Fuerteventura depends to end the historical problem of water in Fuerteventura".

For his part, the Minister of Water, David de Vera, said that from the Cabildo and the Water Supply Consortium (CAAF) work continues to improve the production and supply of water throughout the island territory, speeding up priority projects such as improvements in the EDAM of Puerto del Rosario, Corralejo and Gran Tarajal, which have an investment of close to 7 million euros,

Little wonder there is a water shortage on the island, when  CAAF will not even come out to investigate a large underground leakage.  They give you the name of a plumber, who doesn't turn up either.  4 owners in a property all paying around 100 Euros every 2 months for water?  One of the owners has had the water turned right off for a couple of months, too.  The leak is before the water even enters the property as proven by the huge damp areas outside.

What exactly does CAAF's standing charge cover?

Iniquitous company.

Radio Sintonia:

The Water Consortium addresses the hydrological situation of Fuerteventura.

The Ordinary Board of the Water Consortium, represented by the Cabildo, and the six municipalities, met on Wednesday to address the hydrological situation suffered by the island. In the commission they wanted to show total empathy to the neighbors affected by the latest water cuts and have insisted that work is already being done to give a future response to the problem of water on the island.

On the one hand, the situation of the improvement works in the impulsion of the desalination plant of La Herradura, in Puerto del Rosario, has been addressed. The improvement works in the desalination plants of Puerto del Rosario and Corralejo have already been awarded, in the absence of the construction management. Progress is also being made in the improvement of sand filters at the Gran Tarajal plant.

70% of the water production on the island depends on the Puerto del Rosario desalination plant, the La Herradura reservoirs and the transport networks. Many of them are obsolete, some have not been renewed in the last 40 years, that is why, from the CAAF through PICABAS, the island water cooperation plan is addressing the renovation of water pipes and improvement in desalination plants.

In addition to PICABAS, other problems in the distribution networks are also being solved. But they wanted to emphasize that the island has an execution plan for the next 5 years that will end the water problem, while working to address the day-to-day problems.

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, wanted to give a message of tranquility to users, understanding the anger of the neighbors who, in the middle of the heat wave are suffering water supply cuts, but that being a problem that "has been seen coming for more than 15 years and has not acted. Now we are suffering all those problems that, in the coming months, will improve with the improvements that are already being executed in the impulsion of the desalination plant from Puerto del Rosario to La Herradura". The Minister of Water, David de Vera, wanted to highlight that, in this mandate despite all the difficulties that have occurred, work is being done at forced marches to improve the water supply, as is already being seen in the area of Cotillo and El Roque.
In the meeting they have guaranteed the supply in the industrial estate of La Hondura that until now depended on the supply of a private company and that will now depend on the CAAF itself.
