Coronavirus in Fuerteventura - Discussion
#31
The Spanish Prime Minister declared a State of Emergency this afternoon to enable actions designed to prevent the spread of infection.

Announcing the state of alert in Spain, Mr Sanchez said the government would "mobilise all the resources of state to better protect the health of all of its citizens".
It will be able to limit movement, order evacuations, prohibit access to certain places and intervene in industry for up to 15 days.
"Victory depends on every single one of us," Mr Sanchez said. "Heroism is also about washing your hands and staying at home."

One immediate effect was panic buying that set in at Mercadona in Corralejo this afternoon, perhaps in other places as well. I went to do my weekly shop at 4.30pm and was greeted by security guards in the car park entrance, another security guard inside, and empty shelves! Ridiculous the way some people buy and hoard stuff.  Angry Cry

Just seen this on the Sky News website:

Coronavirus: Planes turn back mid-air as Jet2 cancels all flights to Spain.  That includes Fuerteventura.

Tamara - how did you get photos with no one in them  Rolleyes

Went to Costa Antigua Lidl and Mercadona this morning, Lidl by  9.05 and business as usual, not to many customers, but no pasta or loo rolls plenty of everything else.

Mercadona was packed when we moved next door people driving round looking for parking spaces, never seen it so busy, again no loo rolls or pasta seemed to have plenty of everything else but people were stocking up for a siege  Sad Sad

We were in Mercadonna at around 14:00, and the fridge facing you in Johns Photo that normally contains chicken was completely empty as were two of the freezers just out of shot to the left, what really amused me was as we went to the checkouts the whisky section only had about six bottles on it Rolleyes

Think the Canarian government should make an announcement to help all of us as to how many confirmed coronavirus cases there are here in Fuerteventura and what to do if you have no fever but dry cough shortness of breath for over a week? I rang 112 in the week and they told me probably a chest infection and free to go to the doctors which would be Parque clinic Puerto as I have Sanitas health care but I’ve tried to stay home and take herbal remedies don’t want to cause a fuss but the shortness of breath dry cough not getting better🥴

How bad is the shortness of breath? That's what I would worry about.  It's a bigger worry than the fever.

I'd get that checked if you can.

I agree totally with Will if you are struggling to breath get to a Doctor ASAP causing a fuss is not an issue being unable to breath is a BIG issue, as an aside I have been reliably informed that the only suspected case on the Island has been cleared and to go home tomorrow

The movement of people continues though, dozens of flight in today. Why?

Something like 108 flights today, if you include codeshares, you really have to wonder why.

In the last couple of hours the Spanish Prime Minister has said that from 8am on Monday 16th, there will be restrictions on movement and people for 15 days. From what I understand, most places, except supermarkets, petrol stations and chemists won't be allowed to open (except for takeaways) There will probably be more clarification in the next few hours.
