Motorists beware - 2026 is nearly here!
Posted by: La Oliva Tom - 01-12-2025, 08:28 AM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (10)

Just a reminder that on the 1st January 2026 it will become mandatory for all vehicles to carry the new V-16 Emergency Light (a beacon that is placed on top of the car and flashes if you have broken down. The new model contains a SIM card and can alert the transport authorities to your location.

They are available in many places but prices have increased as the deadline draws near. Currently around 40 euros.

  Best car workshop in Fuerteventura
Posted by: John - 17-09-2025, 08:22 AM - Forum: Cars, cabs & roads - No Replies

Hello.

I've seen a lot of people asking about car sales, car hire, and car repair shops. That's why I want to personally recommend what I consider to be the best car repair shop in Fuerteventura.

It's a business in the town of El Matorral called Taller Fuercar Matorral, which was recommended to me by a friend from the golf course. They have reasonable prices, they solve your problems and they speak English. I had to get my car inspected, so I went to them and they did everything for me. The only downside is that you have to make an appointment, as they are always busy and if you go on the same day without warning, they usually can't help you.

Here is the link to their website where you can make appointments: https://www.tallerfuercar.com

  Airport to Pozo Negro Highway
Posted by: Captain Sensible - 28-08-2025, 01:41 PM - Forum: Cars, cabs & roads - No Replies

Approval has been given for the new road between the Airport and Pozo Negro - https://ondafuerteventura.es/obras-publi...G31ZzC1cEA

The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Canary Islands Government, headed by Pablo Rodríguez, through the General Directorate of Road Infrastructure, has approved the project for the construction of the new section of the Puerto del Rosario – Morro Jable highway, between the Airport and the Pozo Negro intersection, in Fuerteventura. Public Works approves the project for the Airport-Pozo Negro highway section in Fuerteventura

The project, included in the 2018-2027 Canary Islands-State Road Agreement, will run between the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario and Antigua, and aims to connect and continue the island's North-South Axis, to improve mobility and strengthen road safety. The project is expected to be completed within five years, with a budget of €215.9 million, to be spread over several annual installments.

Councilor Pablo Rodríguez emphasized that "the new link will improve the connection between the airport, the main tourist areas, and urban centers in the center and south of Fuerteventura, contributing to the island's economic and social development, access to services, and the mobility of residents and visitors."

In this regard, he emphasized that "the section between the Airport and Pozo Negro will have a tunnel of more than one kilometer due to environmental conditions and is the first to be built in Fuerteventura. Therefore, this project will provide the island's network with modern and efficient infrastructure, promoting more sustainable mobility."

The bidding process will begin shortly, with the aim of publishing the tender on the bidding platform this year, after completing the necessary procedures.

The project

The initiative includes the construction of four main links: the Airport Link, which will connect with the FV-2 highway and serve the island's main air access point; the El Castillo Interchange, which will connect with the FV-413 to the tourist and urban centers of Caleta de Fuste, Triquivijate, and Antigua; the Las Salinas Interchange, which will maintain the connection with the current FV-2 and the southern part of Caleta de Fuste; and the Pozo Negro Roundabout, which will connect with the FV-50 towards Agua de Bueyes and Antigua.

These unique projects include the construction of a 1.2-kilometer-long tunnel, located between kilometer markers 9+230 and 10+430, which includes cut-and-cover tunnels at the beginning and end. A 190-meter viaduct will also be built in the Torre ravine; several structures will be planned at the Airport and El Castillo interchanges, as well as an overpass at Las Salinas and three underpasses to maintain the continuity of rural roads and access points.
