I have a chart i look at every day and Spain has not published figures since thursday so maybe a fiddle of figures is on way. It is time WHO made all countries count the same it is hard to find how well or badly a country is doing.

I agree it would very useful to have a standard approach to how we record and test.  Not only would it give us an idea of which countries are doing well and who are not.   It would also be an indication who's approach was the best way.   For examples in the Uk a  death is recorded as COVID 19 if someone dies who has shown any symptoms prior.   Which to me is not an accurate reflection.  I'm sure the WHO are trying to standardise data but it must be a difficult job

Yes, a friend of mine told me that in Belgium they record alls deaths,  COVID-confirmed or "COVID-maybe".  That's why they have incredible figures.  Now a lot factors come into play.  What's the rate #tests/#population ? Difficult to compare Namibia with the UK. Political influences, suddenly no mores cases in China, During 2 good months, +/-5000 new cases and 100 deaths everyday And now >10K cases. Etc, etc... Hard to find a common denominator to compare,  I'm afraid .

Is that allied to the traffic light position, ie during 'red'?

Just looking at the current figures of 2/3/5 etc. daily infections... Do people think we will ever return to the days of "0 new cases" reported in the late Spring and early Summer? Would that be impossible without full lockdown? Is that realistic, or even desirable? 

Personally, I don't think it's achievable without the same total lockdown we had earlier in the year, and I don't think it is worthwhile to close down the entire island meaning businesses will likely shut forever, and unemployment will skyrocket. 

I think the current figures are what we should be aiming for: efficient testing, early isolation, and widespread good practice (social distancing/masks/limiting contact/etc), with the understanding that some people will still catch the virus, but at a degree that the health system can cope with. 

What is everyone else thinking these days? When I look at the figures at home, I think we're doing pretty well here considering that we're not in total lockdown anymore.

Considering the winter/Christmas season and the number of tourists getting in the near future tested on the island instead of at home, I would expect the daily cases to go up.

Hi Sam, do You know what is the situation with ERC Rally Islas Canarias 26-28.11.2020. Is it going to be with fans or not. Or are there any other regulations.

Gosh I am surprised to see we have so many cases in La Oliva (inc. Corralejo) had thought we were doing better than that.

More care needed here then.   

I was in Hiper Campanario yesterday, at the checkout 2 African lads were behind me. Not distancing, one had his mask on his chin, then as I was just through,  the checkout man, another African,( sorry but true) immediately started serving them right next to my arm! 
I shouted No, Una Momento & I stood still looked hard at them until they moved back it was as if they didn't know why???

Seeing an increasing amount of maskless people in the wilds of Caleta over the last week. All ages, all genders, all nationalities. 

It's either regulation fatigue, an influx of misbehaving tourists (that convince non-tourists to follow suit thinking "Well, if they can do it"), or simply lack of consequences. I've seen very few Police out and about compared to during the lockdown earlier in the year. I haven't seen anyone stopped or even challenged for not wearing a mask. 

I hate wearing the poxy things at this stage, but I continue to wear one even if I am just popping to the bins for thirty seconds! Seeing people casually strolling the streets in twos and threes without one between them gets my goat. Even more bizarre: half the party wearing them, the other half not— so they are clearly aware they should be wearing them, but just can't be bothered.

I wish they'd make a greater effort at enforcement. The more people who get away without wearing them, the more people will be emboldened to stop themselves.
