A translation of the press report from the Cabildo's meeting at 9am this morning:

The president of the Cabildo appeared at a press conference with the insular director of the State Administration, the manager of the Insular Hospital of Fuerteventura and the director of the Health area of Fuerteventura
"The situation for the COVID-19 in Fuerteventura continues to be controlled, with all the sanitary protocols working and guaranteeing the safety of the majoreros and majoreras." This was transmitted by the president of the Fuerteventura Council, Blas Acosta, at a press conference today, Thursday, June 18, together with the insular director of the General Administration of the State, Domingo Fuentes, the manager of the Insular Hospital of Fuerteventura, José Luis Rodríguez, and the director of the Health area of Fuerteventura, Sandra Celis

The Island currently registers 14 active cases of COVID-19, corresponding to people who arrived on the last boat to the Majorera coast last Sunday and are isolated in the Port Authority ship at the Puerto del Rosario dock. The other registered case, arrived in Fuerteventura in Patera on June 3, has received the epidemiological discharge today, Thursday, June 18.

"For the citizens of Fuerteventura the situation remains the same, with zero positives among the majoreros and majoreras for almost three weeks now," Acosta continued.

According to Rodríguez, “the epidemiological situation remains stable, although we are talking about a significant increase in cases, these people who have tested positive have a very well-structured journey, with very limited mobility and strict isolation. In addition, all the professionals who participate in the operations act with all the security measures ”.

“It is a situation that worries us, but it does not show greater vulnerability from the point of view of the Coronavirus and from the health system we guarantee the monitoring of these people. You have to be vigilant until the isolation is complete, "added the hospital manager.

For his part, Fuentes wanted to convey "a certain tranquility." "It is a localized, isolated focus and all the protocols are working to continue advancing towards the new normality."

Likewise, Fuentes thanked the Cabildo of Fuerteventura for the effort made in immigration matters together with the State Administration. "The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has turned to collaboration by assigning its own facilities as accommodation resources."

During the press conference, the parties assured that the Government of the State and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura are currently working to reopen the old CIE of El Matorral as a reception center in the shortest possible time, in order to provide a housing solution to immigrants arriving in the Island. The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has been involved with the State Government to sign an agreement for the conditioning of this center.

Highest number of cases here since the lockdown!

More illegal immigrants on the way! Lifeboat left Gran Tarajal earlier to go and collect another boatload.

That's likely the 19 in a speedboat that the freighter reported.

I hope something can be done to stop them coming to fuerte I know they are desperate people but it seems they have COVID 19 and that’s what they are bringing to us on our small island.  We only have one hospital with limited icu it’s a big worry 😞

Maybe they arent migrants after all, but Brits that refuse to use Ryanair and couldn't wait any longer to go for a game of snooker at the Dog and Duck  Smile

am joking of course, I suppose I shouldn't make jokes about such a serious subject, but us holidaymakers are keeping a close eye on things and cannot wait to get back over there, but obviously we have everyones best interests at heart.
Just an ordinary guy with nothing to lose

Another very useful assumption is that you may be infected with covid19 and by wearing a mask you will help stop the spread. It has worked well for us in Ireland so far fingers crossed.

What a disaster, 11 new cases on the speedboat carrying 29 rescued on Thursday.

Quote:According to the EFE agency after confirmation from the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Government, 11 people have tested positive for the boat rescued on Thursday in nearby waters of Fuerteventura.

The boat leaving the coast near El Aaium was rescued after being seen by a freighter and sounding the alarm. The salvamar Mizar brought her to Puerto del Rosario

These 11 new cases are added to the 14 of a previous boat that were already under surveillance in Fuerteventura.

The situation in Morocco is worrying, especially when there are no pandemic data and the health system does not have all the guarantees for the control of the sick.
