Coronavirus in Fuerteventura - Discussion

A State of Alarm has been declared in Spain. From midnight tonight there will be a series of measures that limit freedom of movement on the mainland, the Balaerics and the Canary Islands.
A Google Translation:
In summary, people will only be able to circulate through public use roads individually in certain cases, and the opening to the public of bars, restaurants or sports venues is suspended.
The Council of Ministers has approved a Royal Decree declaring the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, whose main measures, applicable throughout Spain, limit freedom of movement.
During the validity of the State of Alarm (fifteen days extendable), citizens may only circulate through public use routes "individually" for the following activities:
Acquisition of food, pharmaceuticals and basic necessities; assistance to health centers or financial entities; go to work; return to habitual residence; take care of the elderly, minors, dependents, people with disabilities or especially vulnerable people.
In addition, circulation is permitted only where necessary or in a situation of need or any other activity of an analogous nature duly justified.
Private vehicles may circulate only to carry out the permitted activities. The Government may order the closure of roads or sections thereof for reasons of public health.
The ministers of defense, interior, transport and health will be the competent authorities for the application of these measures.
The members of all the security forces and bodies (of the state, autonomous communities and local corporations) are under the direct orders of the interior ministry.
All authorities, officials and personnel in the field of health throughout Spain are under the direct orders of the Ministry of Health.
The competent authorities will ensure that private health and military health can strengthen the national health system throughout Spain.
The Minister of Health may issue orders to ensure the supply of products necessary for the protection of public health.
The Minister of Health may intervene and temporarily occupy industries, factories or premises, including those of private health and the pharmaceutical industry.
The competent authorities shall take the necessary measures to guarantee food supply, production and distribution.
Sanitary corridors may be established to guarantee supply, as well as production centers.
The mobilization of state security forces and bodies and the armed forces may be ordered to ensure supply.
The necessary measures will be adopted to guarantee the supply of electricity, petroleum products and natural gas.
The supply of public transport is cut in half.
Closing of the hospitality open to the public
The opening of bars, restaurants, discotheques, cultural and leisure facilities, sports venues, amusement parks, auditoriums is suspended to the public, and festivals, parades and popular festivals or folkloric demonstrations in open venues and public roads are prohibited.
The permanence in commercial establishments that may remain open (food, pharmacies, medical centers, hairdressers, dry cleaners, opticians, orthopedics, pet food stores, technology ...) will be strictly necessary, avoiding crowds and keeping the distance from security of at least one meter.
Ceremonies and education
Attendance at places of worship, civil and religious ceremonies, including funerals, is not prohibited, but is conditional on avoiding crowds and ensuring a safe distance of at least one meter.
Educational activity suspended at all stages.

Thanks for the info here!

Very relieved that I won't have to fly from Sweden to Fuerteventura on Tuesday and that the Money will be refunded. I hope you guys down there stay safe and it looks like my first visit to that particular island will have to wait.

I was in Tenerife in October and Lanzarote last month, first time in both places, and loved it but no one knows when travel will be allowed again if it ever will be. Not working so we are going to stay at home and head out every 2-3 weeks to get what we need.

Thanks again everyone!

Sweden took a long time to finally decide to ground all flights carrying holiday people. The swedish Foreign Ministry along with the swedish government have made a fool of themselves and people won't forget this in a hurry. They tried to hand over responsibility on customers and when it comes to schools they are leaving it to every school to decide on their own.

Cancelled my parking at the airport where they changed the rules and allowed people to cancel it even as late as an hour before the parking meter starts ticking and still get all the Money back.

Well, what a surprise! Close the Schools/Universities in Madrid and they head for a 'safe haven'. These 2 students have been here for 3 or 4 days.

Same pattern as Italy.

Strongly suspect this is why the Canarian authorities decided to follow along with the Spanish government and enforce a full lockdown. If they hadn't closed the beaches/bars/etc, we'd have been flooded with people from the mainland (and the rest of Europe, probably) looking for a holiday during their enforced leave. Very happy with that decision, and hoping that the island will become very quiet soon!

One can only assume that numbers will rise rapidly over coming days. They have clearly been infecting those around them for 3-4 days. The exponential rise could have devastating results.

Probably unfair to blame these two kids when you consider the tens of planeloads of tourists have been flying in daily for the last few weeks while this pandemic was building. It's entirely possible that outgoing tourists were giving it to incoming tourists in the hotels, cases that were only recognised once they were home and were counted as Italy/Germany/UK's cases rather than here's, even if this is where it originated.

The kids have come from the most infected area in Spain and were clearly infectious on arrival. That's the difference.
