Coronavirus in Fuerteventura - Discussion
(17-03-2021, 08:48 AM)TamaraEnLaPlaya Wrote: I read a week or two ago that there were 2 big groups, 50+ and 40+ as results of 1 person catching at work in each case and then infecting family members.

Thanks for the intel, Tamara. Hopefully that means we'll start seeing a decline in new daily cases soon once they've identified and isolated all those close contacts.

There is speculation that Fuerteventura will be moved up into Level 4 restrictions.

As the hospital is under pressure I wouldn't be surprised.

I was talking to someone today who's read somewhere that the whole of Spain is in crisis infection wise and that next week will be the end of our dreams of holidaying there this Summer/Autumn. I just hope and pray they're wrong - as do tens of thousands of others no doubt. What's the general consensus over there?

Not an opinion Sam but an observation, I was under the impression that we had it under control, a handful of new cases each day and a similar number of recoveries each day leaving us with cases in the mid 30,s to 40,s, but it appears that more and more people, and age groups are being vaccinated, and the number of new cases are rocketing, with no apparent cause, if there is no one is telling us, there was some talk of it being teenagers and preteens, but that is not noe being mentioned, I am not following trends on the mainland so cannot have an opinion on that, it is however my opinion and hat of a number of people i talk to, that it is not going to go away and we have to find a way to live with it, as we did in my youth with Diptheria, TB and the like, on a personal level I can do without the tourists, but am more than aware that The Island cannot.
I hope the rumours are unfounded and that you and many more can holiday here this year and for many years to come.

Thanks again CS. Condolences to the daughter and lets all hope she makes a full recovery.
The UK newspapers this morning (Tuesday) all seem to reporting the same thing: the dreaded 'Amber watch List' (where Countries can go 'red' at any time forcing quarantine in a Government approved hotel for 10 days at a cost of nearly  2k Euro's on our return) will NOT be introduced and there are little prospects of Spain turning 'red' so, at the moment, things are back on track and looking good........... Phew!!!!
One paper is suggesting it's due to the fact Spain has a very, very low instance of 'Beta' infections, which seems to be the one causing most consternation.
An official Government announcement will be made on Thursday.

Radio Sintonia:

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands notifies the first case of COVID-19 by Delta Plus variant registered in the Canary Islands. The index case is a health professional in Tenerife, linked to an outbreak of intrafamilial origin, with three affected, with no history of recent travel in any of the people associated with the outbreak.

The affected has not required hospital admission and is keeping the corresponding isolation. The so-named Delta Plus variant (AY.4.2) is a subline of the delta variant (B.1.617) of SARS-Cov2 and unlike the latter, so far it has not been determined to be more dominant than the other variants.
It is necessary to wait to know its evolution to determine if its incidence in the islands can be increasing, although given the experience and percentages of evolution collected in other territories where it is present, it is foreseeable that it will acquire prominence, although no behaviors are extracted from that it can become dominant.
Follow-up in the genomic surveillance network
After this first case is confirmed, the genomic surveillance network for COVID-19 in the Canary Islands will continue to be monitored, which includes a protocolized system for the detection, monitoring and control of the presence of the different variants of SARS-Cov2 in the Islands.
This network was launched in March of this year, through the Directorate of Public Health, its different controls allow to obtain a real x-ray of the incidence of the different strains of the virus in the Archipelago.

These numbers are just getting stupid! I don't think going to level 3 will have any effect whatsoever. Personally I think it should be mandatory to show your vacc cert at every shop, bar, place of employment, bus etc. Perhaps then the ones that haven't had their jabs will change their minds and we can all start getting on with our lives instead of it dragging on like this.

I for one totally agree with Tamara, buy I would go further, and make the jab compulsory.

Understand people's feelings, but mandatory vaccination is a foot on the slippery slope. Do you ban Smoking next? Alcohol? Mandatory Flu jabs?
Where do we draw the line.
