Crime increases by 20.9% in Fuerteventura.
In the archipelago as a whole, the rate rose by 9.6%, with a significant uptick in cybercrime and vehicle theft.

Crime in the Canary Islands has gone from 46,676 crimes of all kinds between January and June 2023 to 51,142 in the same period of 2023, this is 4,466 more. This increase is motivated in the important by criminal offenses committed through digital means -cybercrime-, which have risen by 26% - from 6,571 crimes in 2022 to 8,281 in 2023 -, driven in turn by computer scams, which have risen by 30.6%.
That is, a simple arithmetic operation is enough to detect that the daily average in the Islands is 45 telematic crimes per day during that semester, and it must be taken into account that both citizens personally and small and medium-sized enterprises are the main victims of them.
In addition, the theft of vehicles – a criminal phenomenon whose increase is a classic during the economic crises that hit the hard core of society, such as the current ones suffered by the Canary Islands – has gone from 541 in the first six months of last year to 732 in the same period in 2023, which has implied an increase of 35.3%. Although the percentage is higher than in the case of cybercrime, its quantitative perspective shows that the relevance of its incidence is lower.
Fortunately, crimes against sexual freedom have experienced a fall of 4.3% in the first half of 2023, standing at 492 infractions for the 514 of the same period of the previous year. Of these, 94 had to do with sexual assaults with penetration, 16.8% lower than the 113 in 2022.

In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the increase in crime stood at 10.6% to 23,348 crimes, while in Las Palmas the increase was 8.7%, to 27,794 infractions.
By islands, La Palma has experienced an increase in crime of 30.4%; while in Fuerteventura it was 20.9%; in La Gomera, 14%, and in Lanzarote, 12.8%. After them was Tenerife, whose crime has increased by 9.8% in the first six months of 2023; Gran Canaria, where it increased by 6.4%, and El Hierro, where it rose by 1.6%.
Finally, in the two capitals of the Canary Islands, crime has also increased in the same period: 8.7% in the case of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and 6.3% in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

It is unstoppable, despite the formidable and hard-working response they find from the State Security forces and bodies, the courts of Justice and even the law firms specialized in preserving the rights of their clients.
Even so, the truth is that the statistics of the Ministry of the Interior made public yesterday are unquestionable, to such an extent that cybercrime is the main responsible for crime increasing by 9.6% in the Canary Islands during the first half of the current year compared to the same period of 2022.
